Vit701 Gearing Change

This thread is great. Anyone know the torque specs for all of these bolts?

Thanks!

Edit: Oh, I guess there's a general table on the bike somewhere. I'll check that.

Yeah, I'll check it out when I get home. I also bought the manual on disc, but having an easy-to-reference online location would be great.

Ok, yesterday I have replaced the front 16T sprocket with a 15T one(KTM OE Damped version 58033029115). Today I went for a ride. Damn, why don't Husqvarna use the 15T sprocket as a factory install. Now, the bike is more fun, more relaxed....low/tight speed turns don't require 1st gear anymore. You can easily take a tight turn in second gear at 30km/h without struggling to accelerate when exiting the corner. i don't know much about gear ratios and stuff, but in terms of max speed, for me is about the same no matter what sprocked I use, 15T or 16T. I think that the max speed is the same, because now, with 15T sprocket, the 6th gear actually does pull a bit. Before swapping the sprocket, the 6th gear was only maintaining the speed gained in 5th gear. So overall, swapping the sprocket with a 15T one, does a great job.

@Vatte I will try this combo too. But right now i will let the bike as it is, with stock rear sprocket and 15T in the front. I will replace the chain at some point, and that will be the perfect moment to replace the rear sprocket too. I must do some online research about chain manufacturers, to see wich one to choose for my needs😁

Reviving an old thread here…

What’s the best chain and sprockets combination? Is more expensive better? Can you size down the chain to save weight? Is a ‘silent’ front sprocket really any quieter? Is an aluminium rear sprocket being lighter any benefit?

What exactly is a "silent" front sprocket? If you refer at those damped sprockets, the Svart/Vit already has a 16T damped sprocket, factory fitted. I have opted for a OE KTM 15T damped front sprocket, gold D.I.D chain(520 VX3), and a ZF Sprockets dual material rear sprocket.
Switching from 16T to 15T front sprocket is the best thing to do for this bike. Even if the rear ZF sprocket is a dual material one, the weight difference is not that noticeable. I opted for this sprocket and gold chain just for the looks😁

Have you weighed the dual material sprocket and a regular steel sprocket?
I had one on my KTM years ago, and the steek sprocket was lighter 🤣

As far as dampened sprockets go, I've only had an undampened front sprocket on my KTM for a very short period.
I noticed a lot more vibration in my left footpeg after switching to an undampened sprocket. So that got replaced very quickly with a dampened one, and the vibes disappeared.
I've been using dampened sprockets since then.

The 701 already runs a 520 pitch chain, no real need to size down to save weight.
My guess is the most used sprocket combos are 15-40 and 15-42.
I've got 15-41 on mine, but I'm going to 15-40 in the future, the 41 is just a bit too short for my liking.

To my way of thinking it's better to pay more and do less chain adjustments. I use this chain on 3 of my bikes without problems and since i installed it from new bikes (or in one case relatively new) there was no need to replace sprockets. It's a riveted link which i personally would stick with. Price varies widely from dealer to dealer.

I went with 15 front 41 rear and a new chain, I must say this is the way it should have come from factory. The gearing combined with the fueling dongle/O2 delete makes the bike so much more drivable, it doesn't bog or cog like it used to. It can accelerate fine from 20 MPH in 3rd and cruises on the highway all day at 60 MPH in 6th at 3500 RPM and accelerates really well in 6th when you give it gas. I will try later a 14/42 combo to see if I like it better, top speed went from 125 down to 115 and in theory with the 14/42 combo it should be 105, which is fine by me since I never drive above 70 on it.

Here are the part numbers I used.
Front: JTF1902.15
Rear: JTR897.41
Chain: JTC520X1R114DL

Hi all.

Would you guys suggest an X-ring or O-ring chain? Looking at going 15-40t sprockets. I do around 40km a day to work and back, mostly highway and some city driving. Do track days every couple of months and 280km breakfast runs on Sundays. does the X ring chain make difference?

Thanks
