The Vit 701 suspension thread

After the first ~240 km sporty country road hunt (85 kg driver pure + side luggage bag). In general, tangibly better feedback from the front, although I find it difficult to feel changes to the settings when stationary. Currently I am at compression and rebound five clicks closed (my motto as soft as possible and as hard as necessary). Significantly more stability when braking, now it is finally possible despite ABS to let the rear wheel lift off very slightly. Thanks to the lower air cushion much reserve against bottom out.
 
I must have gotten the only one of the bunch where the suspension actually works from the factory.

Maybe its because I weigh more than everyone else? (seems somewhat counterintuitive)
 
It works from factory but for me its more confidence spreading now. There is always something to improve even it's a chain or a sticker. ;)
 
Always with the chain, I should dig out that link to the peer reviewed study, performed by a real educational institution, showing the effects a chain and its lubrication have on performance

It has, no doubt about it. But is it really measurable or even feelable? When rotating my wheel by hand during lubrication I can feel the difference but during driving???
 
I was able to purchase a Nitron R3, shipped from Germany for $860. Not cheap, but several hundred less than buying one stateside.

I think the site had an error in their pricing, as the R3 was cheaper than the R2. I was going to buy the R2, then noticed the price difference and got the R3 instead.

Will be here in about 3 weeks.

I've been riding more (commuting in the mountains) and realized that the shock is a major problem. Hard to describe the performance, but is seems to be too soft in low-speed damping and too hard in high-speed damping. So I'm being jammed hard on sharp-edged bumps and wallowing on roller bumps. And the rebound seems too high as well, hence the new shock.

@Max Kool Do you still have the dims for the remote reservoir? I think I have to design and print a bracket, and I'd like to get started before the shock gets here. Thanks.

Actually just took another look, and both of the shock prices have changed. I got a quote for the R2 in April for £741 total, shipping included. But now its £656.31. Just now I checked and the R3 is £740.58, shipping included. So they are charging the same now for the R3 that they charged for the R2 in April.

I paid £705.95 for the R3 just a few days ago.

Not sure what's going on, but the prices are jumping around.

Is there another cheaper option apart from Nitron? With UK import taxes it's a bit pricy. Maybe something from KTM's?
 
Correct, there is the emulsion shock from Hyperpro that is quite a bit cheaper than the Nitron (about $500 USD last I checked). Almost certainly better than OEM, but doesn't have the perf and adjustability of the higher level Hyperpro and Nitron offerings.

I bought 701 Vitpilen with a dead shock at only 11000 km. The price was good and I have not been impressed by the factory shock, very harsh, not adjustable and the rebound was too quick for my taste. So I went with a Fournales shock (pneumatic) because I really wanted to try it and the shock was made in few days. I am very happy about it so far but I have mainly commuted with it, and coming from a dead shock everything is an improvement :) .
But now I find the fork spring too soft, getting about 50mm of preload. I went to my suspension guy, also a WP reseller, who told me that there is no other springs available for the Vitpilen. He may be able to get Ohlins springs at the good size but he may need to adapt them. Looking on the internet I find no other options than Andreani cartridge and Hyperpro progressive springs (I prefer linear ones with the good stiffness...). Do you know any options?
 
That’s a weird suspension guy. He just needs to measure the stock spring and select one that’s one or two clicks stiffer. Add a spacer to suit and done…

Anyway, Nitron seem to have a kit for this bike too. 👍🏻

Try changing the fork oil. Some people have reported improvement after using a heavier oil.
Have not tried yet but it's on my to do list.
