Dutch Vitpilen 701

It's been a while 🤐

Well the Michelin rear is down to the wear markers now. So I've ordered a set of dunlop sportsmart mk3's to replace them.
The Michelins never did anything wrong. But i just don't gel with them, I don't know what it is, but they never gave me the same awesome feel the S21's/S22's gave me.
But I like to try different stuff, never had Dunlop before, so I'll give them a go.

Few weeks ago the Husky reached 20k km's so time for a service.

Didn't do it all at once but spread it out over the last few weeks whenever I had a little time.

So tank removed to get to the valve cover:

All four of them were within spec. So buttoned it back up again.

When I removed some crankcase vent hoses to make room to get to the cover I was greeted with this:

So I then ordered a waterpump rebuild kit and bought some coolant:

Fitted the waterpump kit:

Also cleaned the hoses and I'll keep an eye on them to see if it's fixed.

Changed the oil and filters.

Fresh set of plugs:

And today I changed the clutch and brake fluid:

All that's left now is the airfilter, it's a K&N so I'll see what it looks like and if dirty I'll clean and oil it.

Ordered some tyres:

Metzeler rear for my dad, S22 front for my brother and the dunlop front is for the Husky. Dunlop rear should be here tomorrow or Tuesday.

We'll be heading over to the Isle of Man for the Manx GP end of August. So I'll need the fresh tyres 😎

Did you remove tank covers before removing tank ?
Nope, just removed the seat, removed the little black cover on the front of the tank. Undo the bolts and then you can lift the tank just enough to undo the fuel hose and some connectors.
Then lift the whole thing including the covers.
You can see the tank lying on a pillow if you look between the frame tube and the cylinder head on the second picture in my previous post.

How do your 20km old plugs look, and did you look at your piston top with a flashlight when your plugs were removed?
Plugs looked fine, you could see they weren't new, but they didn't look like they were about to fall apart.
You can see one of the old plugs if you zoom in on the picture of me holding the two new plugs.
Haven't looked at the piston.

From your pic it looks like the Bridgstone and Dunlop have both a bit less tread depth than the Metzeler, or is it just looks in the camera?

Edit: I expect the front typically has less that the rear, just looks like so much less... like 3mm only..

The fronts have about 3,5mm of thread above the wear indicators.
The current Michelin front still has about 3mm left above the indicators. I'm not 100% sure but I think it has done about 7000km. 😅

I prefer the feel they give over the Michelins I had before. They are more sensitive to pressures though.
With the S21/S22 and the Michelin I could not notice a difference in feel if I changed the pressure by 0.1 or 0.2 bar.
On the dunlops I can definitely feel a difference in behavior on small pressure differences.
Turn in feels quicker than the Michelins, but that could be new vs old tyres 🤷🏻‍♂️
If the rear wears before the front is close to worn, I'll happily replace it with another fresh one. Whereas I didn't want to put a new Michelin on the rear and changed the half worn front as well.
