The fuel guage is useless. 2019 Svartpilen that was not listed in the tank recall. I measured the tank capacity at 10.5 litres after running it dry and refilling to brim on the sidestand. I have run out of fuel at 240 kms before so use 220kms as my practical range. Cruising at about 110 kph...
As you would be stuck if the slave cylinder failed, I would change the cylinder to an Oberon anyway. My Svartpilen 701 had the recall done but when I removed the replacement cylinder the seal was already looking fragile. It only takes a few minutes to change the cylinder and the Oberon gives me...
I switched to Oxford Horizon Billet Alloy Bar End Mirrors but found the left one dropped down every time I hit 8,000 rpm. The friction was insufficient to hold the mirror at the selected position. So I returned it and was supplied a second one. Exactly the same happened! At 8,000 rpm I was...
Don't apologise for using Penrite. It's good value because the freight costs are lower in Oz and NZ but I have been using it for my motorbikes and Alfa race cars for years. Repco have regular specials on Penrite oils that make it even better value if you shop early for the next oil change. Enjoy...
Yes. I like Motul products and this meets the requirements. 10w-60 may not be necessary but is available here in New Zealand and is the best oil I could find for the 701.
My tank is the original 12 litre tank but on the side stand I have never squeezed in more than 10.5 litres. I ran my Svartpilen 701 from brimmed to empty (with a liter container of petrol in my side bag) and covered just 242 kms (150 miles) until the engine flamed out. This was fast cruising on...
My Svartplen 701 idles at about 2,000 rpm when warm. This seems a bit high to me as engaging first gear is accompanied with an unhealthy clunk. And there is not as much engine braking as I would expect.
What rpm is the normal idle speed? And can it be adjusted?
Any feedback will be welcome. So...
Here is one location for the reservoir. The preload is difficult to access after mounting, but once it is adjusted you are unlikely to need to alter the preload very often as it is not a bike likely to be loaded with heavy luggage or a pillion. Just allow 30 minutes fiddling around with the...
Reducing the preload on a Nitron shock is simple but time consuming. Mine was set way too high initially so I cranked out 8 turns on the adjustor to return to the previous standard ride height. No need to change the link that would reduce the suspension travel. Just adjust the ride height.
I think the spring rate supplied at 92 N/mm is good for my weight (90kgs bare). It is difficult to measure but I am pretty sure I have 150 mm total travel at the back wheel. The static sag and laden sag are within most guides to desirable sag. Bear in mind that I have set up a back roads tourer...
I had the same problem - it requires a lot of force to push the panels together again so you think you are going to break a tab but just keep trying. The process is the exact opposite of removing the panels. Here is a link to a video showing the process.
The Oberon slave cylinder looked pristine when I examined it. It has only done about 3,000 kms so I have no concerns over it. I am using Motul 7100 10-60 MA2 synthetic oil but perhaps it is a little "sticky" when its cold (winter here in New Zealand). Thanks for your advice - I love having a...
