Hi all.

I've had my Start 701 for about 6 weeks now. I read that the tank capacity is 12 litres. I go about 70-80 miles and the "low fuel" warning comes up. I go to the gas station, and it only takes 7-8 litres to go to the brim (I keep the bike level filling up).

Is it really 12 litre? Could I go to 100 miles safely? I fear running it dry as I don't want to end up having to push to a gas station. But can I ignore the warning and just watch my mileage?

Following to see input from owners who have ridden these longer than me.

A bit tough to say... the big single can get really thirsty when it gets throttled.

Probably best to test it gradually on your own cause so many factors at play (chain lube, tire pressure, etc.)

The lady at rider magazine writes that 160 miles is possible.

If the tank recall has been done, the capacity should be 11,4 litres.
I've only run it dry before the recall, and it then took exactly 12 litres to fill it to the brim.
The way you fill it up might also make a difference. I always sit on the bike to keep it upright and fill it absolutely to the brim.
Light usually comes on around 175-190km.
But I tend to fill up around the 210 mark.
And then it takes a little over 10 litres.

I easily go over 100 miles. Usually I fill up at 120 . But my light comes on around 95. Then I can get 2.5 gallons in. Your light may be coming on early or you use a lot of fuel. But I'm confident you can easily get to 100.

I had the same issue, and at the first "low fuel" warning I was able to put something like 5-6 liters.
The fuel indicator is just very bad, it can stay full for 100km and then going to empty 50km after.
So I have kept trace of every refueling: IMG_20240127_081319.jpg
With an average of 4L/100km (59mpg) I know that I need to think about refueling around 200km.

My tank is the original 12 litre tank but on the side stand I have never squeezed in more than 10.5 litres. I ran my Svartpilen 701 from brimmed to empty (with a liter container of petrol in my side bag) and covered just 242 kms (150 miles) until the engine flamed out. This was fast cruising on country roads at normal speeds. So I plan on filling up at 200 kms normally and start sweating at 220 kms if no fuel station yet! The fuel guage is useless with low fuel warning at about 120 kms. Use the trip meter!
