Exhaust

All of the issues you are describing will be taken care of by a FuelX. All it does is slightly richen the mixture by adjusting what the O2 sensor reports. If you do a full exhaust or a decat you have to use a Coober or other such thing, but on a stock bike the Coober is a waste.

My guess is that a FuelX for the Euro 5+/5b models, which will also include the connector for the third sensor behind the cat, will soon also be available; it is already for the 390/401 models.

Does anyone run the IXIL black exhaust with the DB killer? Ive got without it, but kind of thinking its a bit too much. How much will the DB killer reduce volume?

@Griffo46 ; just noticed that you're from UK.
Just out of interest, what kind of exhausts are you "allowed" to attach to the bikes in UK?
As the European EUR 5+/5b don't count for you, do you have other regulations you have to comply with?
If I remember correctly, I read something in a description to an exhaust like "street-legal but not homologated" on an UK exhaust manufacturer's website.

Hey Tom, to many variables here in the UK so can be confusing. Must be e marked and not excessive noise. But, if you find the right garage and you're not riding like an idiot, you'll be fine with a noisy exhaust. I've had a track exhaust on my blade for years, never had a problem.
Brand new bikes don't have an MOT inspection for first 3 years, so just need to not attract attention of police.

So ultimately not much different; incl E-mark; my impression was, it's less restrictiv in the UK.

@Tom, In the UK there is no need for an exhaust to be homologated like Germany and Spain. If you get stopped by the police you are at the mercy of the officer on the day, a lot of them are ¨bike savvy¨ As @Griffo46 says the MOT test depends on the garage and they can be very leniant/undesanding. At one point I ran a GSX 1100E with a full race Vance&Hines exhaust without problems. Homologation is a pain in the butt

Here in Germany, there are regular police checks in certain areas and on specific routes where bikes undergo thorough complete inspections. Even for minor issues (such as a removed dB killer) riders can be completely prohibited from continuing the ride, requiring the bike to be collected via trailer or van. The harassment that sometimes takes place here is completely unreasonable. Since certain routes are known for frequent checks, I avoid them since years completely.

Oh no! I'm due to ride through Germany in a couple of weeks!! Will they stop tourists and expect them to have bikes that comply with German laws?

These bike checks primarily take place on routes that are very popular with riders, such as Black Forest or the Harz region. Personally, I haven't been stopped for a check even once in the last 15 years, so you shouldn't assume you'll definitely run into one. Since you're coming from the UK; meaning EU regulations don't necessarily apply to you; and as your bike isn't extremely loud; I would simply play dumb; and just say that everything on the bike complies with UK requirements.

I'm riding through the Black Forest area but I think it would be unrealistic to expect tourists to comply. Thanks for the info, Tom!
