Vitpilen 701 modifications

Can the air box be removed without dropping the engine? When I looked at it, it seems to be wedged in there pretty tight.
I’m not thinking about removing mine. I’m just curious if anyone has, and what steps were needed to accomplish it.

The hydraulic clutch on the Vit and the Svart 701 are different. I didn't realize this until I ordered and tried to install the longer clutch lever for the Vit.

Anyone have a lead on a Magura longer clutch lever for the Svart 701?

Thanks.

15T sprocket in front, made a huge difference! Will probably try 15-42 in the future, but for now I think 15-40 is good enough.

Hello, I see that this is an old thread, but did`t want to start a new one for asking a noob question :giggle:
Do I need to replace the chain too, when replacing the front sprocket with a 15T one? Will JT JTF1902-15RB sprocket do the job, or is there a better choice? Also...will this modification help the bike at low speed handling? Since i`m a new rider, I often find myself in second gear at low revs/speed when trying to take a sharp turn, and then, when exiting the turn and accelerating, either accept that the engine will struggle or drop it to 1`st gear. In terms of max speed, how much will this modification affect it? Thank you guys, and excuse me for these noob questions.

15T lowers the speed compared to same rpm with 16T, so it helps with low speed driveability. However, have you installed some sort of fuel dongle? I actually went back to 16T after having installed Kevxtx’s fuel mod. Could ride at between 500-1000 rpm lower without issues with that and no longer felt the need for 15T. Could have stayed with 15T as it is not bad for city riding, but I do some track days as well and was always on red light just before breaking point…

No need to replace chain when going down a tooth, just slide rear wheel back a bit. Highly recommend a fuel dongle though if you don’t already have one, makes a massive improvement on low rpms.

@Elingsbo I have a FuelX Lite installed, but i`m not that impressed about it. I don`t know if it`s just in my head, but sometimes the dongle seems to work just fine, and the low speed handling is OK, other times the bike behaves as if no dongle is installed. Maybe the product is not as advertised and Kev`s one is much better. In terms of max speed, is the difference that noticeable between 15T and 16T?

I have only tried Kev’s dongle, and am very pleased with it. I believe top speed is about 5% lower with 15T. Check out gearingcommander.com for detailed info on speed/rpms with custom gearing.
