The Vit 701 suspension thread

Looking good Max! That reservoir on the exhaust hanger looks a lot better than the frame mount!
It will stay cooler there as well 👌🏻
For length adjustment I would just bite the bullet and remove the linkage to adjust it.

For preload I always remove the rear brake fluid reservoir and then use a hyperpro preload wrench I pinched of my dad 😇
I just put a rag over the frame tube there to avoid scratches.
But if your preload collar is a bit low, it might be very difficult to get to.
If all else fails, you'll have to take out the shock to adjust the preload 😓

I'm new to motorcycles so I don't know anything about the suspension and what's good or bad... I haven't even adjusted the front shock with those little dials because I don't know what to look/feel for on my ride... I guess I'm happy with the ride quality but at the same time, I don't know anything about ride quality on a motorcycle. lol

Just go out and ride the thing, build up experience.
Just for fun you could just turn one adjuster all the way clockwise or counter clockwise. Take a ride (take it easy, the bike may behave a lot different than you are used to)
Feel how the bike differs from what your used to.
Repeat this with the adjuster all the way to the opposite end of the adjustment, go for a ride, feel the difference.
Repeat this for the adjuster on the other fork leg. And you could do this with the rebound adjuster on the rear shock as well.
This wil give you an idea of what the adjusters do, and how they influence the ride.

Apart from that there is a ton of info online and in books about this subject.
Racetechs suspension Bible is a popular choice.
As is sportsbike suspension tuning.

Dave Moss on youtube is very informative as well.

Edited to add:
When in doubt you can always adjust it back to the factory settings by following the owners manual.

Thanks! This will be a fun experiment. I'll give it a try once the rain stops and the roads are dry!

After 30+ years of riding I still feel very little difference in suspension settings on many bike, some hardly respond to clicker settings. I can feel when it's really wrong -like springs way too soft/hard, or lack of damping-, but when it's ok-ish, it's ok for me.

The stock Vit was not ok-ish for me. I didn't feel any difference between damping settings on the forks, but different oil did make a difference. To add to that, the rear was so hard (way too much rebound), that the shock would pack on bumps, upsetting the front forks and slowing down the steering.

@OKVitpilen ignorance is bliss. If the bike feels good to you, it's good. It's that simple. It simply depends on what you're looking for.

I’ll be honest and admit I never bother fiddling any more. As mentioned above, in many cases, on the road, it makes a negligible difference for most bikes. I will usually check the settings are per factory and leave it as is if so.

Note under the seat on the Vit are some suggested settings. Maybe try those as a starter, see if you notice any difference between ‘sport’ and ‘comfort’, for instance.

Looking back I’ve never paid to upgrade suspension on any bike either - they’ve all either been fine as is, or I never liked the bike enough to spend the money :)

Max, I like the look of your new Nitron shock, looking forward to hearing how you find it when you get to ride her, how the forks feel to with the change, good luck for your testing

On preload adjustment... maybe you could get one of these to fit?

Nitron offers that too as an option, but as I always ride solo, I figured it a bit of a waste of money.

once set I’m good.

Yep just got back. Sooo much better. Different bike really, the plank became a motorcycle. Woke up the hooligan in me.

In all honesty, I can fault suspension when it’s wrong, this, I cannot fault, at all. Max is a happy biker 😇

Awesome stuff Max!
Can you do a pic of proper side on view of the bike to see how it looks with the extra rear ride height?
I always find the Vit to look low in the rear, and think it would look a lot better with the rear raised a bit.
