Badwinners Dash - Anybody Who Preordered has Received?

That's what I assumed. But I guess not. If it was the badwinners dash should also be able to retrieve it from ecu.

Husky might have decided not to have the dash reprogrammable at their shops or they just decided that it was more cost-effective to replace the dash outright if they have issues. But that wasn't my point.

Husky can make that decision, and it doesn't really affect you - because they are "down the street" in most cases and can reprogram your dash (if applicable) or replace the dash quickly and without much issue to the owner.

Conversely, BW is NOT down the street, so they needed to have a way to modify their firmware to 1) Work correctly under all circumstances and 2) Interface appropriately with the motorcycle's software, including future flashes to the bikes electronics. They chose not to and some of us (and them) have to pay for it.

We've already seen #1 blow up for them, and #2 may or may not, depending upon what happens in the future with Husky flashes.

The sole point here is that they took a gamble and, in this case, lost.

Not sure I can expect a "simple" motorcycle tuner to understand the complexity of automotive industry software engineering.

Which Change Management and IT Certification do they list in their home page?

None. Cant complain when they dont Manage their IT like the big boys.

Anyways, delay or fail or whatever aside, I hope they keep it up.

Motorcycle tuning is more aesthetic than industrial, next time lets hope they get better help from the right IT experts.

I don't want to seem like I am taking sides, I am a fan of keeping promises...

... but who else is making plug and play dashes?

Maybe those who buy one in 6 months will only have positive experiance in the future, and maybe those who currently have negative experiance will get some nice benefit from badwinners like a t-shirt or a ballcap for playing the test dummy.

If the vitpilens aren't having problems. I'm gonna stick to my original assessment. I'm actually not that bothered about sending it back if it was faster and they communicated better. Hell ktm took over 5years to acknowledge a slave cylinder problem. Mabey if they sell a lot they can get better customer service .

You could be on to something! Remember about the only thing the Vit and Svart 701 are different in is the ABS/TC.

ABS cannot be switched off on the Svart 701 and the dongle doesn’t work.

Closer to 15 I think. The slave cylinder has been a known problem since the 2003 or 2004 KTM 990 adventures.
And it has been a weak point on every generation Duke 690 as far as I know.
So on the 690 it's been crap since 2008.

My final thoughts on the matter . . . .

The point stands - if they had a port or if they had an app/bluetooth to communicate with the dash to update the firmware, one would not have to remove the dash and wait 2 months for it to be returned. Remember, they had bluetooth already as I believe the detached buttons were likely using bluetooth to communicate. They could have leveraged this capability already to flash if they wished to expend the resources to do so and didn't want a dedicated port.

I'm nearly certain it was considered to have some method of update and they passed on it, for one reason or another. This is a very basic assessment that one doesn't need specialized degrees or training in to consider. The fact that their dash communicates effectively with the cycle bus says they DO have the sophistication to do what is necessary to make appropriate decisions to have a robust setup.

If I had to do this again, knowing what I know now, I would not purchase this dash when I did. But it still looks great on the bike and once working, looks great as well.

No, they get 10 demerits for choosing to forego this feature.

The detached buttons were wired. Motone brand.. I'm not sure it's legal To use solely Bluetooth to control essential functions

Are you certain of this? I recall a promo referencing them as wireless, and I assumed bluetooth.

Appears I'm mistaken on the wireless . . . but I swear I read it somewhere that they transitioned from wired to wireless before the updates to touchscreen.

They never released them until the current version with touch screen. So what happened before that is pretty much irrelevant. Right?
