Badwinners Dash - Anybody Who Preordered has Received?

Got a note from BW last week saying that supply chain challenges are holding things up. They’re expecting a chip shipment in April that will allow them to deliver in May. Eight weeks is now twelve.
12 weeks?. Those are rookie numbers. Try 13 months .

Hi there,
So i did preorder, had some serious issues, send it back, wait a lot, and finally just got it again, after week od testing:
1. They did not repair issues with condensation, same thing happen again, and it's really bad, basically it's design flaw, there is huge gap between lcd and digitizer, and it's not sealed properly, i reckon they can't do nothing about without replacing shell/lcd/digi.
2. My bike got some starting issues with BW dash, i'v tried it with oem battery and fresh-out-from-box-lithium as well, same story, will start but after second or third try, no issue with oem dash.
3. There is spec of dust in the center of my disply, catched between digi and lcd, and it's super annoying, they did not clean it with air gun, before assembly !
4. Gear indicator do stupid thing, 95% works fine but likes to display wrong gear [yet again not issue like that with OEM dash]
5. Hi beam indicator won't work, or they did not put one, hard to tell because nothing changes when i flip to hi beam, OEM works fine.
6. they kept rpm range from stock one, why!?!?!
7. it's much heavier then OEM.

Basically i send my dash back to BW with all those faults and after LONG waiting they send it back with one extra issue :)

I'm not happy

Cheers.

Weird. Has anyone else had similar problems. Did you send it back with the harness. Mabey you have a loose pin or wiring issue. As for condensation I would send it back or just open clean and seal it myself with silicone. What was bw response first and second time to issues.

I did send it with harness, i could fix it myself, this is basically what i do for living, repairing heavy duty electronics with touch screen, right now i'm waiting for BW response for my emails, they like to wait a bit before answering my questions usually :)

They should use liquid bonding between digitizer and lcd, then seal around edge of that digi, to bond it to housing, that will sort out issue with condensation.
Even with current internal design they still can do that with filler [plexi glass or something transparent], so if they have let say 2mm gap between digi and lcd, they still can use plexi and do sandwitch digi-epox-plexi-epox-lcd with 1.8mm plexi.

Keep us posted - I do not have a positive position on Badwinners and I want to see how they resolve this. My guess is: they will not. I've had several interactions with them, and none have been satisfactory.

I do have the dash. It's on the bike, but we're still raining here in Portland, so no time on the actual rode to check it out. It looks nice, though. But the 3D printed plug for the back of the old harness "nose" (Svartpilen) they came up with is not good. There's no way that will seal in a wet ride. I will eventually seal with silicone, but haven't yet.

Good luck.

That plug isn't so good. But I've ridden in the rain . washed bike a few times and with the temperature swings have condensation covering bike almost every morning.and my dash has not had any moisture intrusion.

Went for first ride yesterday, all was well.

The dash DOES have a high-beam indicator; it worked fine in mine.

I must admit I am bummed... this seemed like a good way to spend a bunch of money, but so many people are having issues. I do think it looks nice IMO. @Ayzen pretty bike! That headlight is very interesting.

Define "so many". And you do realize you own a ktm right . That being said. I think the bigger issue is badwinners themselves and less of the actual product .

I guess any can be so many as long as it's more than 1? There was a recall of 12 units you said? So that is at least 13 including our poster above (although maybe she was among the first dozen). Seems like "so many" in my book.

Not sure I see the point about my owning a KTM. Please enlighten me on the relevance.

Because EVERY single ktm has had one issue or another from a multi million dollar company.. I was one of the 12. The issue was a programing error. ( They didn't account for the svartpilen to have a different abs setting than vitpilen which is badwinners oversight and not the product itself). Also every issue ayzen has has also been complained about with the stock dash. And don't get me started with ktm gaslighting people on the slave cylinder for over a decade. But back to my point. I hope badwinners gets their customer service together and make it right for anyone that has issues. But I'm personally more forgiving of a small shop making custom parts than a corporation with r&d and quality control departments letting thousand of mistakes slip through the cracks.

Man, I know this is a motorcycle forum... to put it into context: go buy a "Ford" and 'splain to your kids why you show up in a rental 4 hours late to pick them up from soccer practice.

Seriously though KTM makes a kick-ass motorcycle, and if in order to do so they resort to "cost effective" solutions for parts which are not "primary performance stuff" and will probably be replaced my owners anyways, its still a kick-ass motorcycle.

As for bad winners, they are obviously inexperienced in Dashes and the results show it.

I needed a tow truck 12 miles into my new bike(slave cylinder). Stuff like that and kickstand switches. Are things ktm have known about for years. And are not parts people should have to upgrade anyway. It's not like badwinners have been making dashes for years. They made a concept . people wanted it .so they made a production run. Ktm is a nice bike . badwinners is a nice dash. They both have issues. I expect more from the company that's been in business decades. Than a small custom shop who tried to make a cool custom part. Despite this I'm overall happy with both my purchases. Because despite issues. They are cool and unique as hell .

Every type of bike has issues.
Need to choose which issues you can live with.

Hopefully the bad winners will benefit from their gained experience and pass this benefit down to their trusty first customers.

I have send that video to BW and their response was:
'Can you please disconnect. Wait a minute then reconnect
And let us know'
So i gues i have to do that every time something like this happen :)
...also they did not answer to my questions about ongoing issues with condensation etc.
Great.
