I bought some plastic dip spray today to paint my radiator covers black. Looked like crap since I sprayed too thick. Will hopefully try again on Tuesday. Its supposedly an easy way to get them non permanently black.

Pic from when it was drying. Let’s just say it didn’t turn out great. Will rip it off and do it again on Tuesday. I’ll have to ride with it like this tomorrow 😂.
 
Alternatively, you could try a black (3M) car wrap instead; I tried it for the first time a few years ago; it's not particularly difficult.

I’ve been thinking about that but I think I’ll need a heat gun and the indents where the screws go might be hard to wrap.

You could use a hairdryer instead. Yes, the indents are a tad more difficult, but it shouldn't be impossible.

Second try. This plastic spray seems pretty good. I think I’ll leave the bottom plate alone, I’m guessing the exhaust will make it hot.

How scratch-resistant is the plastic dip coating?
That remains to be seen. Not very, is my guess. I think the risk of scratching the foot rests is pretty high. I have read some reviews saying it’s quite scratch resistant but I doubt it.

Looks good but the heel rests didn’t even survive one ride. I think I’ll order the carbon heel rests instead.

Why not black anodizing the parts?
It will also keep the brushed structure of the aluminum...

Oh, I forgot, you`re in love with carbon... 😁

I’ll be keeping the radiator covers black, I really like it. Don’t think I’ll be spending the cash for the current Vit 801 carbon covers, too much hassle. I think it will look even better with the carbon heal rests. Still waiting for a tail tidy to be released but other than that I’m starting to feel “done” with the mods, except for some more stickers.

(I don’t count new tires as a mod, will definitely swap to Road 6 when spring comes).

A few weeks ago I came across the company Nicecnc, that offers various CNC-milled KTM Duke parts.
Since the reviews that I found are mostly very positive and the quality of the parts is said to be very good, I ordered (out of curiosity) a few protective parts that will fit the Duke 790/890.
The package showed up today; the engine protections (pic 1 and 2) are alternatives.
First impression: the quality indeed seems to be very good!
Unfortunately some parts are only available orange anodized; if they'll fit the 801 and if I decide to install them, I will have them anodized black.

I would say yes, even if its about the same difference as riding with thin textile jacket vs. thick leather jacket in terms of feel, so probably not noticable to most.

More than just the weight though, the self discharge is lower on a LiFePo, so when the bike sits for a few months waiting for better weather you wont need a charger like with a normal battery.
