The Vit 701 suspension thread

I’m actually interested on how the forks perform once a decent shock is mounted. A too harsh shock / rear spring can upset a bike’s balance up to the point where you’re starting doubt the whole bike...

Exactly, my thoughts also, one reason I asked nampus if he had tried out his latest suspension work, very interested to see how you find the change with the addition of the Nitron shock also...
So I checked out sources and pricing for Nitron on my side of the world, a Australian distributor/agent, with a retail of $
1150 USD equivalent, and a New Zealand agent, with $1300 USD equivalent, which is $1800 NZD in out money currently...

I'm in Zeeland, the south west of the Netherlands. We had about 10cm of snow last night 😔 and the forecast is frost for the next 10 days or so.

Max, what are you needing those measurements for.? I have seen the bit on the end of the hose mounted on the frame tube on some 401s, not sure I seen any 701s with a Nitron fitted online...

@Wanderer Nitron straps it to a frame tube too on a 701, but I prefer to mount it somewhere else, most likely on the exhaust hanger.

Meanwhile I got the dimensions from a friend:

A 47mm
B 45mm
C: 80mm
D: 115mm

(which is perfect for the bracket I have laying around)

This is a Buell EBR part

Sweet, nice bracket too, and yes I agree, mounting somewhere else is desirable, not keen on clamping to the frame and marking it myself...

That's a clean garage!
I'm waiting for Nitron to deliver me a set of custom rear shocks for another bike, their premises is not too far from where I live.
But they are having a few issues at the moment with getting their shocks built to a timely manner. Their website quotes 3-4 weeks delivery time, but at the moment it's double that, and I'm still waiting... Covid probably isn't helping things :(
How long did your shock take in the end?

You don't have to lift them high. Just remove the front wheel and they slide right out if you have a support for your bike. I host my bike from the rafters in the garage when I do that (or when changing a shock). But you need to have rafters... Else a front stand that supports under the headstock.

No drain screws, and it's actually very simple on these forks imho, (screw the caps off of course) keep them upside down, and pump a few times to empty the cartridge.
Just out of curiosity, are there any tricks to aligning the triple clamps after a fork oil change?

Procedure for remounting the fork legs says to compress the front suspension a couple of times before tightening the axle/ fork bottoms, which should get everything lined up.

Yes, like when mounting the front wheel.

For the triple clamp alignment, top clamp to bottom clamp, no special procedure to get them aligned?

the best I could do. I would have loved to flip the reservoir over with the adjusters pointing rearward. But, it is what it is. Hose was too short unless I rotated the shock 180°, in which case the hose banjo would rub the airbox. Not good.

as far as I can tell it clears the swingarm. Btw, what a bitch this bike is to adjust the preload, let alone shock length (impossible).

Fingers crossed the weekend is dry. 🤞🏻
