The Vit 701 suspension thread

I'm assuming from nampus's post above that to change fork oil one needs to remove the fork, and open up the cap, then suspend upside down to drain, followed by refilling and assembling, Is that the only way to do it.? What happened to drain screws, nampus I'm liking your stands and setup there...
 
Just looking a Nampus's pic above and thinking, to remove the fork legs, one would need to lift the front end of the bike quite high, to let the leg come out of the triple clamps straight, that in itself could be quite a challenge without a fancy high lift stand like nampus is using, any other ideas guys.?
 
You don't have to lift them high. Just remove the front wheel and they slide right out if you have a support for your bike. I host my bike from the rafters in the garage when I do that (or when changing a shock). But you need to have rafters... Else a front stand that supports under the headstock.

No drain screws, and it's actually very simple on these forks imho, (screw the caps off of course) keep them upside down, and pump a few times to empty the cartridge.

Thanks, Guess at some point I shall give it a go, I do have a stand that lifts on the swing arm pivot shaft with pins that go into each side, tried it out on this bike the other week and it works well, so then supported in the centre, and not much weight on the forks to lift, so could do that with bike tie down ratchet straps... Pic to follow on the stand.

That should be fine for removing the fork legs.
Quick tip for this:
Before removing the fork leg, release the bolt that clamps the leg in the top triple clamp, then undo the cap of the fork leg while it's still clamped in the bottom triple.
It's a lot easier then trying to undo the fork cap on a removed fork leg.
 
Thank you nampus for the process, makes sense when one thinks about it, but easily overlooked, and much harder later :)
 
nampus, NO, I don't yet have a workshop manual, wondering where to get one from, meantime that offer would be very helpful, thank you.

Doing some research today I was reading reviews of the Duke 890R which was getting rave reviews for its suspension...and it’s the same fork used on the Vit. The shock though is higher spec on the Duke.

Odd that the Vitpilen doesn’t get quite the same rave reviews.

It's not the same forks, they may have the same name, but they will definitely have very different part numbers and very different internals!
 
As mentioned before, I have been looking at the 690 Duke R, Looking at its rear shock, which is of a much higher spec than our Vit one it would seem, shame that KTM/Husqvarna gave us a low spec shock, and the forks also could do with some improvement, I was also looking at the suspension on the Supermotard, new 2021 model arrived this week, yet to go see it, an have some thoughts of changing, but will cost a lot to do...

No not yet, could be a few weeks before that happens.
Forecast for this week is 20cm of snow and temperatures below 0°C
My first ride of the year is usually in March or when the weather doesn't cooperate in April. 😔
 
SAD for you, and others living in colder climates that control there riding... I saw a article on the tv new a couple days ago showing the snow in New York area, and that sure looked rather COLD... Here I'm moaning about the hot days and all, though I have had two big ride days in the last week, one on my Vitpilen, the other on my Africa twin...
Which part of the Netherlands are you in.? My wife is from there, Utrecht way I think...
