So along with the air box covers I took out the 2 snorkels and I am really happy with the intake sound when giving it the beans . My question is has anyone done any dyno testing on this ? I do not feel I gained any power over just removing the air box cover but was just curious.

Have you read this?

Doesnt matter what the dyno says, you should go with what feels the best for you.

Did you try only snorkel removed with lid installed?

I did this before going full pod filter. Ran with airbox lid removed for a couple of months (definitely more noise and power) then popped the snorkels out. More intake noise for sure, but don't think there was any power difference over just running without lid.

Yeah I can’t tell a difference but like the noise level over just removing the air box lid. how do you like running that pod filter ? Looks awesome , any gains or losses in power

I am not understanding exactly what you meant when you said “2 Snorkels”, but removing anything south of the stock air box lid is going to require time & money for tuning work to get it to run correctly.

Remember that a large amount of research and development went into getting that engine to perform as it does originally. Removing air box manifolds &/or switching to pods requires new fuel/ignition maps.

Two air ducts going into the air box

Yet more intake noise, running it with a PCV (though map probably needs optimising on a Dyno) no obvious dips in power, and feels like more thrust in the midrange. Really hard to tell though because the sound plays havoc with my butt-dyno 😂

So I will wait to do any further mods on the intake side till I get a pcv . What is the consciences on the exhaust side. Can I put on a slip on as long as I keep the cat without tuning?

Just changing to a slip on with the cat in place should be fine. I would recommend a fuel dongle even with the PCV.

@ChainsawDuke I assume you mean the o2 eliminator dongle, and not the one that plugs into the temp sensor and tricks the bike into believing its much colder outside?

How far as "ok" goes without a tune, It always depends on the fuel, which pipe, which intake... slip on alone is normally no prob.

Yup, O2 eliminator dongle. The PCV can't do much on its own in the rev range the dongle works in.

Imo these engines are so tuned and high strung from the factory there is not much you can do to make them more powerful except buy a bigger bike ( where is the vitpilen 890 Ktm??)

I did the air box lid removal and Rottweiler dongle and that made the bike run so much better in the mid range with a good increase in power there. Then I did a PCV, and removed the stock muffler baffle and cut it down about 4 inches, cat is still in because with it the bike sounds amazing because it evens out the exhaust pulse so it doesn’t sound like a 450 dirt bike. Most dyno figures seem to show a decrease in power with no cat so not much motivation to remove it. The main motivation with the PCV was to keep the bike from running too lean for long term reliability. Aside from a rich smell when it starts and slightly smoother throttle response that’s about all those mods did. I think any mods after removing the lid and doing a sensor dongle are going to have very diminishing returns.

I’m sure just about any dongle will work that “tricks” the ecu into thinking it is running lean, not sure how hard it is to get the Rottweiler one outside of the states but they are proven.

Was thinking about getting this one. Any thoughts?

I'm sure it does the job, but not convinced it will be any better than the $20 Rottweiler or Smart Moto versions that definitely do work well after you upgrade to a PCV.

Absolutely. Despite all the mods I have done to mine I would be surprised if I have gained even 2bhp at max power, it is mostly about filling the holes in the power range caused by emission and noise regs. Which Husqvarna have made very easy to do.
Just a fuel dongle, airbox lid delete and lower gearing will improve the drivability and responsiveness hugely.

Question for those that have removed the snorkels, how big are they? Do you think that a shock piggy back reservoir can fit in that space?
