New 2020 Svartpilen 401 Rider!

Hey all!

this is my first post on any sort of forum for this bike (I haven't even found many to become part of yet!)

Background on me: I am coming off of a Honda CBR250, and I currently ride a yamaha TTR125 dirtbike and Honda Monkey.

First Rides:
- I am in love - my buddies can attest to this as I was giggling with excitement for the first 20 minutes
- I am only 5'2 - so stock it is fairly tall for me - I had ordered a lowering kit but it ended up not fitting the 2020 model (but after riding it more, I've decided against lowering it!)
- I did have to have the swingarm replaced not even a week after having the bike - it was damaged "due to shipping", where the crate brackets mount
- Personally, I feel like it rides like a dirt bike, so I absolutely love that! Even for me, I feel like it is already pretty light and dang easy to handle.
- Sticky buttons on the speedo - anyone else have this issue? It's really hard to change the settings.. maybe I'm just weak .. haha

What's next?
- I would love to find some ways to make the bike a little lighter, I am currently getting a fender eliminator installed, so that might help a tiny bit
- most likely a skid plate, what have you all found so far for the 2020 model?
- I'm still torn about the mirrors - whether or not to keep the stock ones or find some after market options
- exhaust - not seeing too many options out there for 2020 yet though?

Off Road
- since I do ride dirt bikes as well - of course I am curious about off road handling. I don't expect it to be super capable off road, but would love to test it a little bit

Got my T Rex Racing fender eliminator installed. Thankfully I had one of my mechanics do it because it did not actually fit this model. I also bought their crash bars too, haven’t installed them yet, but I really hope those fit

I also started the replacement of the stock turn signals too. I’ll post a better picture later

When I bought the bike, I decided to carefully weigh everything I took off the bke and everything I put back on. I do like lightweight bikes, and I was curious how significant the changes would be. Here is where I am so far.

I agree that if you can deal with the stock height of the bike, that is best. If you can get one toe down (on the ball of your foot) with the opposite foot still normally on the peg (arch of the foot), and you have good technique you can probably deal with the height, I think.
There is also room to slide the forks up in the triple clamp and you could add some sag to the rear if a bit lower helps you be more comfortable

Congrats on the bike Tinty! I have the T-Rex fender eliminator in my 2019 Svart, works and looks great. In terms of weight reduction projects, I changed the stock muffler to the Leo Vince slip on, have the rear pegs eliminator kit (not installed) and will change to a Lithium battery (thanks to Vintage Veloce recommendation). In the future I would also like to change the stock collector box for a ligher alternative, but need to read more on that as I dont want to have issues with the stock air/fuel map.

Agree with Vintage Veloce! I bought my bike used, from a friend. He's shorter than me and he had slided the fork up about an inch. He also had the rear shock in the softest (shortest) setting. I havent riden a "stock" Svart (he also eliminated the rear fender... more weight savings there), but mine rides great with the front fork "mod". I would try that before investing on the lowering kit from Husqvarna.

I'd like to put a skid plate on, too, but I've only found the Husqvarna and the T-Rex ones, but I have a 2018 and they're out of stock, as they are for the crash bars. You must have beat me to the last set of crash bars, so let me know if they don't fit the 2020!

added the T Rex crash bars, easy install so I was excited about that. Also had my Cyclops Adventure turn signals installed too! I’ll try and add a video of them soon.

Giggling/laughing - still happens to me for some reason or another, like every ride.

Off road - I go everywhere, even with my pilot street tires, and it goes there.
Just gotta ride it off road like the baby street bike that it is, and not like a dirt bike, or an adventure bike, and your cool.

My plan to lighten the 2020 model is as follows:

tail remove
lithium battery
aluminum sprocket
passenger pegs remove
cat delete (along with a tune)

Hoping to shave 20lbs.

I've applied 3M clear film to the headlight and speedo. At least some protection without adding the impractical metal cage.
Leaving stock mirrors. Bar end mirrors are ugly, IMO. And there is nothing worth replacing stockers with.

As far as the install, my guy said that a majority of the included hardware did not quite match up - so he had to use some different pieces from our bins here (I work at a shop so I was pretty fortunate to have access to that). The spacers that are included, that are "only used if the grab rail is being removed" had to be used for proper fitment as well.

New accessory! Some Oxford heated grips , excited to have a more comfortable ride in the cold weather!! So far have only used them once at the 80% setting ... I’m in love. Definitely a game changer for me

@tinty: Finally got the T-Rex eliminator installed on my 2020, thanks again for your help with the pictures. One question: Do you have any problems with water intrusion under the seat? The gaps left by the removal of the stock turn signal mounts leave me wondering about that. I'm thinking of plugging the gap around the spacer with some Sugru or something.

FWIW, for anyone else who is considering the T-Rex eliminator (which just went up by $10) on their 2020 SP401, the only thing you'll need to pick up is a new set of bolts. I used 2x 50mm, and 2x 45mm bolts in the same diameter and thread as the ones that came with the eliminator (which I think were M8 1.25)

mmm, Tinty, just curious. What’s the model number of those grips. I went to the Oxford site and there’s like pages and pages of grips…

Any issues when installing them? They fit well? Removal of the old ones?
