@Fighter BTW (no criticism), but why didn't you just order (regardless of the insurance) an aftermarket shock online to your location on the trip? This way you could have continued your trip and also ride back home. Once back home, you could have tried to sort out the warranty issues with your local dealer but could still ride the bike. That’s what I would have done.
It would of course still have caused a delay of a few days on your trip, but things like that can simply be part of a trip;
as long as the trip can continue.
Many moons ago, we took a trip in an old MG Midget from the 70th from Northern Germany through France and Northern Spain (Bilbao, Irun, San Sebastian, Hondarribia); crossing the Pyrenees; and back. You wouldn't believe how often we broke down and had to get the MG running again; lately, the engine required at least a liter of oil for every tankful of fuel. Yet it was an absolutely amazing trip that has stayed in our memories even many years later; and without any regrets.
