Hitting the Pipe Catalogue

In most of the USA, emissions checks are mostly only random and visual.

If an official notices an after-market non OEM exhaust end-pipe (& they heard excessive Loudness), then a citation could take place.
In other words, if it doesn't make too much noise they don't care. I ride with the stock cat and the baffle removed from my Akra (on both my bikes actually). Quite a bit louder than stock, but not overly so.

Whenever I got pulled over (which happened a few times too many) they never even cared about my exhaust.

And that's in "notorious" California, where we don't have any inspections or smog checks on motorcycles btw.

It's a bit different in europe (yeah mostly in Dach countries). Everybody knows about db killer, it's the easiest thing to control..
Noise is a serious problem, there are already roads closed for motorcycle in black forest and alps..
By the way the full akrapovic is meant to be mounted with db killer..

Next I'm going to hollow out the cat. I have shop that splits it in half, removes the cat and welds it back together.

For some reason I have it in my head that the "original" reason for removing the cat was so that you dont f- it up using race fuel on a race tune at the race track; because cats are expensive.

With pump gas, why?

Why use race gas in a bike like this?

No, less weight more power.. don't know anybody who puts real race fuel in a hobby race bike..

Gonna skip the race gas, and I will agree that no cat means less weight.

But more power?

I dont want have to spend 12.95 on an ebay pipe and 250 bucks on a dyno to prove it...

How come nobody pops in a new cam for 180 bucks and runs under body exhaust when street legal is irrelevant and weight is king.

Gains vs $$ are marginal for street use.

I mean we're all trying to make our bikes lighter and faster*, but you gotta stop somewhere or simply buy a different bike. I'm all for optimizing what I have within reason (only).

* this is not Vit specifiec, you see this in every bike group/forum.

Faster? Lighter?
Be less cash intensive to Play nintendo more and Call Jenny Craig.
(Being humorous- no offence to anyone intended)

And what ever happened to making it look cooler and sound better to pick up the chicks?

Isnt that the main reason for hitting the pipe catalog anyways?
