So here's my 3 iterations . Of back of dash covers. First was Puig aluminum front plate . As it's doesn't have brackets for svart. Had to use Universal bar mount brackets. Didn't like that. Then Puig neo gen screen. Had brackets . I liked it except it was too tall. I didn't really want a screen. I just wanted to cover the ugly back( why didn't husky finish it like the vit is beyond me . Finally fairing which just arrived . The top part is okay. The extended brow visor is a little weird . What do y'all think. Also added USB and 701 undertail stickers(asked for gold. got some weird orange)

Edit. . They didn't load in order so 4th pic first pic then last two

I like it.

The orange is a bit KTMesque
If it were my bike;
I am not sure but I would probably make the 701 underneath the tail chrome to match the 701 on the tank.

Can you provide part numbers and reference for this fairing - it looks like Husky branded.

I have been designing a 3D printed one and may use this as a base. It's ok, but not to my liking that much. But it will help with my design.

Can you advise on cost?

Thanks.

The reference URL is an odd bit of kit - to my eyes, it looks like the same geometry as the OEM plastic, but is made of aluminum. Why would one make this change? What's the advantage?

Can you tell me how the grmoto fairing is attached? New brackets or does it use existing mounting holes? My approach uses the screws that mount the speedo to the plastic frame.

Thanks.

Just more aluminum for a different look. An aluminum front fender is also offered. Grmoto you have drill holes in stock with 2 rivnuts no brackets. I can't wait to see yours .

It's one of my pet projects, but is on the slow road. Laying out the design now, and at work I have access to a very large 3D printer that is SLA, so if I get it right, I should be able to have a beautiful finish on it - SLA is super clean. And we just got a 5-axis CNC, so maybe . . . .

I'm surprised grmoto didn't smooth it out more and make it come up over the speedo a little. The central, vertical section does not look good to me. I think they should have smoothed it to the sides.

Anyway, will be months before I'm done, but once I get the layout in CAD, I'll share.

BTW, any additional pics you have and can share, I would love to see them. Close ups of the mounting and a top view would be helpful.

Thanks for the help.

Well it's designed for stock speedo. Which it should cover fine. I like the thinner middle better than flared out more. Personal preference. Ill snap more when it stops raining.

Here's the top pics for ya dwb.

Was able to get some time working on the prototype. Some pictures attached. Not bad for a first swing. I have some ideas for additional layouts. I think it needs to be wider as it goes over the cowl - so same size on top and flaring out as it goes down. Also have some other thoughts regarding the very front.

Pictures were brought into CAD package to help with design and sizing. Disregard the lines you see - it will be smooth.

Anybody who is looking, I'd love your feedback: like, hate, suggestions - it's all good. I think black will look best, but a blue/black/white combo might be nice too. I'll have to 3D print it, then get it painted.

This was fun, but a pain in the ass. Feedback?Picture1.jpgPicture2.jpgPicture3.jpgPicture4.jpg

Definitely wider. I see what you're going for with the pods. But on a full cowl like Max's they are wider and lower. All I see here is a grasshopper in front view.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't quite get a grasshopper, but definitely an insect of some sort. Not what I was going for, but first round is always a bit of a hit/miss. Cheers.

I really appreciate the effort you put into this, that display really sticks out in a bad way. Designing some kind of fairing would be great, but I think it will be hard coming up with something that in itself doesn't stick out just as much as the display itself since it's mounted so high up and far forward. But I'd be happy to just get some kind of bug protection for the back of the display, so just a small piece of plastic that looks nice as well :) Don't know what the easiest way to mount it would be though, if you don't want to drill holes in the original parts... some kind of adhesive?

Instead of a fairing, there's two other options I've been considering. Don't know yet which one would be doable.

First option - Replace the whole plastic box with the same parts for the Vitpilen. Headlight mount, the fairing around it, the back part of the same box. If the parts from Vitpilen fits, you'd get the same clean look with the almost horizontal display mount. But again, haven't looked into the details yet to see if it's actually doable.

Second option - Cut off the display mount and secure it with an adjustable mount so you can set the angle as you wish. Here a 3d printer would come in handy to cover up the gap that cutting off the mount will introduce.
I'd get a new spare part plastic box for this, so I don't have to cut in the original parts. I always like the option to change back to original if I would like to do that in the future.

But considering my track record when it comes to actually following through on the ideas I get, I'm pretty sure I'll never try any of these two options myself :sneaky:
Which in many cases probably is the best option 😄

Hi, I am very curious about whether you eventually went down the route of option 1. I'm considering buying a Svart but the whole headlight fairing + speedo display combo is mindbogglingly ugly compared to the Vitpilen layout. Would like to know if it's possible and how it ends up looking. Thanks !

I know I have the drawing skills of a 5 year old but hopefully I can explain it better. What if the badwinners aluminum adapter was ditched. A 3d printed rectangle with legs( for support) was attached to stock mount from the backside with post going through the 3 stock holes. Attached with screws and washers. Basically the stock mount would be inside the rectangular box. That rectangle would then have 4 post to mount badwinners dash. You would save weight and have a cleaner look . I know nothing about 3d printers or cad drawings but it was just a thought inspired by f900r.

I actually had to stop for a while - too busy at work and an infant in the house. I didn't get a chance to update and take the next step in modifying the design, and I wasn't happy with the first round as well and was intending to modify it, having some additional thoughts in mind.

That's a good idea, @Satur9 - that was actually one of my thoughts as well: get rid of the BW mounting plate and create something that supports the dash and brings it further forward and down, AND has the ability to mount a small fairing to. Hadn't taken it forward yet, but I think that is the way forward, one way or another.

Also, what I really wanted to do was get the front-end laser scanned and then I could really be able to come up with a design much easier. I just bought one, but, again, timing is awful, and I can't get to what I need to do.

On a diff note, one thing I looked at was the Puig Retrovision (https://www.ebay.com/itm/165502705168) screens. They don't look too bad, but one would have to design custom mounts. Not a super big deal, but because of the dash location and how close it is to the headlight, the screen needs to be nearly vertical and doesn't look good, plus it cannot hug the headlight and actually sticks out a bit. Not a solution, but I might use it as a base point for when I finally get the laser scanner up and running.

This is a long-term project and eventually I hope to have it done. We'll see. Life has a way of making you change plans . . . as do wives.

I looked at the Vit --> Svart change and actually bought a bunch of parts to make the change, BUT the headlight mounts on the triple-clamp are not the same, and at the very least you would have to change all the triple clamp parts as well. And I think it would just keep walking compatibility back one step at a time until you replaced the entire front end. Note how the key switch is mounted on the Vit and the clip-ons - these would drive one to have a very expensive parts swap, I think. I tried to just swap out the headlight, and you can't even get that far without having to get to the triple-clamp swap, so I stopped.

I also like the barracuda. ( For stock dash) . But brackets are hideous
