After Years Of Lusting, I've Finally Found One!

Today, I cruised along the coastline. The quick shifter works perfectly 99% of the time. I still have some hiccups, although they've become infrequent now. I'm still waiting on the bar end mirrors at the moment, and I can't wait to purchase them already. The stock mirrors are less than adequate, however, they're better than no mirrors. I can't stop loving the Vitpilen. It's the most appealing aesthetic that my eyes have seen for a motorcycle thus far.

I'm keeping the stock mirrors. I see them as part of the overall design. I couldn't see behind me so I got some mirror extenders which work beautifully.

The LEFT mirror is RIGHT threaded, the RIGHT mirror is LEFT threaded. The conical bolt on the LEFT mirror is LEFT threaded, and RIGHT threaded on the RIGHT mirror!!!

These are the ones I got. It says for Yamaha only which is not true.

I actually don't mind how it sounds. The exhaust did become quite a bit loud, though. I always wear ear protection, however, I decided not to yesterday. Now, more than ever, ear protection is mandatory with how loud the exhaust is. I believe my Vitpilen is in its final form at the moment. From the other modifications that I've seen, there really isn't much else to improve on. For the time being, I'll leave the signals stock. Here it is:

I'm keeping the stock exhaust. It's quiet and I'm finding it reduces fatigue.

Today, I crossed the 1,000 mile mark. Finding neutral has become very easy now, compared to when I began riding at ~200 miles. I've experienced some hiccups, like others have reported, with the quick shifter. Hopefully, it gets ironed out with more usage. 95% of the time, it works flawlessly, though. All in all, I'm in pure ecstasy with this motorcycle!!! I keep scraping the pegs because it feels that I can lean harder than what I perceive at the limit. It's an odd sensation. I will have to take a picture combining the Vitpilen and my helmet. It's such a sick combo. Whenever I see myself in reflections, it makes me so happy. It's a flawless execution, in my personal opinion. I love having such an unique motorcycle because there's nothing really on the roads quite like it. A lot of people break their necks when I'm out riding.

I have my suspension tuned to the sport settings. I've been using Supermoto mode more lately. The Vitpilen 401 is pure perfection for me. I believe it's physical form will be complete once I obtain the bar end mirrors. It should be a terrific transformation, based on others' pictures that I've seen.

I LOVE THE VITPILEN SO MUCH!!!!!!

It's half a tap to neutral. I was frustrated until I realized why Husqvarna made it this way. It makes the 1-2 shift nearly fool proof. Many times on the Honda I'd get neutral instead of second gear. I had to be very deliberate with the Honda on the 1-2 shift.

Today, I crossed over the 2,000 mile mark. Right now, everything is functioning correctly and harmoniously. I haven't had any other hiccups recently. I'm madly in love with the Vitpilen! I hope that you love yours as much as I love mine!

Oh gosh, I love the Vit. I've got about 400 miles on mine. It is so much more refined than the Honda.

Today was the final day that I decided to ride this year, and stored the Vitpilen with just over 2,100 miles. It was an exceptional 1.5 months of riding, and purely sensational. The Vitpilen has been everything that I expected, and needed, it to be.

I had a friendly "race" with a vintage Triumph 650 over 5 miles of tight, twisty mountain roads. He was in the lead, I followed. His bike was in beautiful condition, probably restored and probably not stock.

The Vit is faster. I don't know if that's a surprise or not.

He had some pretty loud pipes on it so I knew when he was getting on it. The Vit brought him back every time. I'd say the Vit has stronger acceleration.

He went into the curves more slowly than me, possibly because of his brakes. He went through some of the curves better and faster than me. I'd say he's a better rider than me but on a slower bike.

I now have just over 600 miles on my bike. Gotta' call the dealer and make an appointment for the first service. The dealer is 9 miles away. I don't know what to expect for the cost of the first service.

When I called the dealer in Pittsburgh, they quoted me $150 for the first service. I imagine pricing shouldn't be much more than that considering you're in CA.

I rode my Vit to the dealer this morning for it's 600 mile first service. It was 45 degrees outside, cold by SoCal standards. But, the sun was shining so it wasn't too bad for the 11 mile ride. I coulda' taken the freeway but I took surface streets. I took an Uber home. Had I known it was only going to take two hours for the service I might have waited.

The estimate was just under $300.

I dropped it off at around 9:15 am and got a call around 11:15 am that it was all ready.

I'm leaving to pick it up from the dealer at 3 pm. My motorcyclist neighbor has graciously offered to drive me.

The price still seems reasonable for CA standards, in my opinion. You have the peace of mind that your warranty will be honored now, should the necessity arise.

What do they do on the first service? This is a screenshot of the online owners manual. There are no solid dots in the 1000 km (600 mi) column.

They changed the oil on my bike and I'm glad they did.

The bill.

$208.50 for 1 1/2 hours of labor, $139 per hour rate.

$65.47 + sales tax for oil and filter. $10.99 for "Suspension Clean 13 OZ". I guess that's used to clean the chain. Glad it was cleaned and lubed.

Not complaining, it is what it is.

BTW The upshifts with the quick shifter improved after the service. The 2 to 3 shift is better although the 1 to 2 shift is still pretty jerky. Downshifts after the service were as before, perfect. I noticed the new Honda Hornet has a separate screen devoted to user adjustments of the quick shifter. I put a Healtech aftermarket quick shifter on my previous bike, Honda CB300R. It had a downloadable iPhone app to adjust the parameters. But, it was only for upshifts as the Honda did not have drive by wire. I only used this quick shifter on the 4, 5, & 6 gear upshifts because the 2 & 3 upshifts were too rough.

For the first service, the dealer checks over the motorcycle to ensure that everything is as it should be. The inspection checks the torque specs of all of the nuts and bolts, including the wheel spokes as well. From your invoice, it seems that they did their job. As for the quick shifter, it will continue to improve with more usage. If I recall correctly, mine seemed to be functioning correctly after about ~1,400 miles.

Good to know about the quick shifter improving with more miles. It could be that it "learns" and/or it improves as the transmission wears in.

I love quick shifters. All bikes should have them. Small displacement bikes especially benefit from them.

From the reviews I've seen the QS on the GSXS1000 seems to be the most fool proof.

MOTOBOB on YouTube visited the MV Agusta factory and an engineer there talked about what sounded like a shift by wire transmission. No physical connection of the shifter to the trans. Shifts done by motors or solenoids or something. It's not a DCT, dual clutch transmission, as seen on some Honda motos and many cars.

Did you know that Husqvarna offers an accessory clutch that allows coming to a complete stop without having to pull in the clutch lever? That would be great at the stoplight drag races. MV Agusta offers something similar on some of their models.

I had to periodically check the sensor on the Healtech QS on the Honda to see that it was sending an adequate signal to the black box under the seat. Sometimes the bolt holding the sensor to the shifter needed to be retightened slightly. There was a screen on the phone app for this purpose, really neat!

I believe that I will pull out the Vitpilen for the first time this year on Monday, as it's now becoming rather warm day and night. I purchased a point-and-shoot camera over the winter, so my pictures should be of a much higher quality from now one.

I've been thinking about starting a thread where people can post about their rides.

The nice thing about living in SoCal is that you never have to put your bike away for the winter.

Found your thread very interesting as I also just got a brand new 22 Vitpilen. I've over 20yrs of riding and your enthusiasm makes me want to hop on the little Vit and go!

Originally I thought I'd want the Svartpilen as I came from a bigger ADV bike, but on the open, curvy road the Vit is nice, takes me back to my drop-bar vintage bike days. Keep the pics and enthusiasm coming!

I only just pulled the Vitpilen out for the first time this year. It started up instantly, as if it was never in storage. I rode about ~80 miles, and it's as exhilarating as ever!

It seems that I didn't update here. The reason as to why I didn't pull out the Vitpilen until now is because I acquired another toy about 2.5 months ago; a 2008 Lexus IS F. I love my toys.
