Hey guys!

I've been away from the forum lately, but I'm still riding (and learning)!

I watch a video the other day on safety equipment which stated that statistically most motorcycle injuries are foot/leg injuries. As far as safety equipment I'm well covered, and most importantly I always use it. I have a great Bell Helmet, Klim and Revit mesh jackets with armor, riding jeans with armor, gloves and TCX boots. However I started thinking that wearing higher adventure boots for my weekend rides, which take me far from home, could be a good idea. Just wondering if anyone else does this (pro's and con's).

So far I've been looking at the following:

https://www.revzilla.com/dirt-bike/oneal-sierra-wp-pro-boots

https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/tcx-drifter-wp-boots

https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/forma-adventure-boots?rrec=true

Might be an overkill, but if it will keep me safer, I don't care. My weekend rides are just that, I don't stop to do errands or go to nice restaurants.

If the aforementioned boots are too cumbersome, anyone knows if wearing something like this would offer more protection than my TCX X-Blend boots?

Thanks!

I've been riding for a long time. And boot technology hasn't changed very much. But I can tell you the Forma boot is the most comfortable boot I've owned. Bought my first pair back in 2015 when I got my first dual sport bike. They are so comfortable I use them when I ride the GoldWing. The thing that stands out the most is how comfy they are for walking.
Good luck with your choice.

Thanks Greg! A friend of mine has the Forma low boot and told me the same, he has used it for walking and loves it. Do you own the regular (taller one) or the low one?

Boots are made to cover a certain range of riding and each has different characteristics. MX boots are the most solid and the hardest sole. They give high levels of injury protection because of the increased likelihood of a crash, but they lose feel and feedback because of that solidity and are not so comfortable for walking. Next are adventure boots, which have a solid sole so you can ride standing on the pegs for a long time, but the boot is softer for more comfort on long days of riding. And then come road boots that are more flexible for ease of walking but still have good injury protection.

The best thing is to check the feel of them in the store with solidity/flexibility in mind. Your current TCX boots look like a very solid sole already.

A boot needs to have good forward flex but no sideways flex. Most boots have this, some more than others. No boot will give full protection for some injuries. I think spiral fractures from having a boot jammed in the bike and the body twisting is the thing a boot can't protect from.

The buckles on dirt boots take more punishment than the zips and velcro of road boots and allow adjustment for tightness. Whether you need that for road riding is up to the rider.

I have the Adventure Style (tall w/ buckles)). The tour guys I ride with think I'm nuts, what do they know. Might be on the warm side but you can't beat the safety and comfort. Shines in the dirt but just as good for street.

Just went and looked at a Forma Boot web site. Didn't know they made an Adventure boot in a low cut with buckles. "Joeprez" you just cost me some $$$. Think I need a pair.

I was wearing Sidi Crossfire boots when this happened...

That's said, I still wear these same boots. They are great but... This happened when I caught my toe on the right side of a trail and the foot/leg was rotated around to the right. Boots won't protect against everything.
Personally, for the street, I concentrate on ankle and heel protection from being slammed into the pavement. But I'd never wear my Sidi Crossfire on the street, they really aren't flexible enough for me to snap shifts and gently poke the brake. Off Road things aren't so gentle and so they work great.
On the street I wear Alpine Stars SMX-6 when I'm going all sporto, and TCX Hero boots when I'm going casual.

Appreciate all the help guys. I think I'll continue riding in my TCX boots and maybe get the Forma low's for the times I ride in unpaved roads (doesn't happen a lot).

I am going to agree with the posts above,
its important to dress for the occasion.

On thing I would add; make sure you find the balance between safety and functionality.

If you crash because you cant operate the bike properly than its kinda "fail".

Well, I found the Forma low cut Adventure boots on eBay. You are not going to believe this. A guy in the Netherlands (chromeburner) Sells this boot for $165.00 with FREE shipping. What a great deal.
Got my boots in the mail today. Just like the man advertised, new in the factory box. Couldn't be happier. Thx joeprez for turning me on to the boot.
Here is a link to eBay
