So I'm looking at doing a hopefully easy mod to the stock airfilter because i dont feel like spending $75+ on something that i can just build for $10. It would just consist of chicken wire, small aluminum sheet (probably left over from home duct work) cheap car filter, blue fiberglass filter (for ontop of car filter peace to keep potential junk off it) RTV sealant, and a dremel to cut out the majority of the OG air box lid except for screw holes. Should be able to sandwich all of it together and be just a dry filter version of the more expensive filters. I have the idea in my head, i just need the time to built it

Finally managed to get some time in the garage today. I bought a spare lid from Huskyparts (£28) filter foam is from eBay (£7) I already had the alloy plate and mesh. I have made a modded airbox cover. I know you can buy very good (and some not so good) ones already but I think they let way too much air through the filter box top. KTM have spent time in R&D making an air box and filter that works, I just think it needs a little more air coming in, just a little.
The foam is fine automotive grade which is washable.

Pics,
All the parts, foam is protected by fine stainless mesh.

Assembled with loctite, I can easily take apart for cleaning and I have enough foam for 6 x replacements.
My worry was the bolts would come loose and get into the intake, I have paint marked them so I can pop the seat off to check after the first test rides. I will be fitting this with my Arrow pipe and FuelX lite in the coming months. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for looking, Jes.
Yes works faultlessly with my Arrows exhaust and a FuelX lite.
Sorry I do not know how to link to the thread but hopefully you can see the pics.

That looks way better than the one i was going to make. Mine was going to look a little more like a PB&J sandwich 😆

One thing you can do so no worries about the nuts falling off is, just make the filter and the top plate the same if not bigger than bottom plate and use the factory bolts or get longer bolts of the same size and bolt through to factory holes. That way no bottom nut to worry about.

It was the bolts I used to attach the alloy plate to the original air filter cover coming undone and falling into the intake. They have not undone at all in nearly 4000 miles. The bolts that hold the air box cover on were retained as standard.
I have taken it to pieces to clean the Red fine filter foam and it was a bit dusty on the seat side but clean on the inside. I cleaned it with brake cleaner and dried it before re-installing.

I was going to make my own but i found one on Amazon for $30 that looks like it's going to be way better quality than what i could produce.
