Fender Eliminator 401

I finally got to making a better number plate holder too. The old one was protruding quite a lot, and didn't really fit the lines of the rear end. Also, the coming high exhaust wiould collide w/ the indicators, so a new solution was due.

Considering my limited set of tools suitable for bending sheet metal, I decided to make a prototype in thin aluminium for starters, to try out both the design, and practice my metal bending skills.

And voila, mounted to the bike, w/ the tiny Rizoma indicators. If You ask me, I'm especially satisfied w/ the number plate light sitting in the EU ring of stars in the plate itself. Not sure what the authorities think of that, but we'll see I guess...

All in all, I think it fits the bike much better, now I'll just have to get som thicker sheet metal (2 mm steel, or 2,5 mm aluminium I think will do) and fabricate a proper one.

I've run this carbon fiber fender eliminator thats also a plate flipper in 1 on multiple bike in the past. Its very small and very universal, it mounts up by just one center bolt so its easy to install.

Whats nice here if you effectively have a rain fender with this design..

True, I hope it catches the worst of the spray, should I be caught in a shower. But the (mandatory) red reflector rattled off on the test ride, some room for improvement there...

Mine had a small gap that let spray come thru and hit my back (Sold it since), yours should be good..
No gap, but since it doesn't stretch all the way over the wheel, there will be some spray, at least at lower speeds. Then again, I'm a sunshine-rider these days, hope it isn't put to the test...

I got caught in the rain with my relocated plate mount. I have to say, it was not good. I wonder how much better it actually is with the stock fender.

Well, I know the answer now. The stock fender/plate mount is surprisingly effective in the rain.

As usual, I forgot to take many pictures, or post the result, but here goes 6 months later... I got to fabricating a proper fender eliminator based on the aluminium prototype. It proved quite a hassle to bend the steel sheet metal in an orderly manner without access to some proper tools, but after applying oceans of patientce, and quite an amount harsh languish, it turned out quite symetrical and good enough to fit to the bike. Here's the piece test-mounted, ready for finishing:

And here's the finished result:

I gotta say I think it turned out quite well, pretty much like what I pictured before setting off. Still it remains to be seen if the authorities approve of the placement of the plate light, and the angle of the plate itself, but the next inspection is two years away so I'll worry about that later. Now I just need to get a matching set of indicators at the front.

Me too! The sound is great! It's got a really good grunt to it, from idle to full rev, without being loud in a way that (obviuously) irritates the surroundings. I cannot swear that the performance really is improved, but in combination with stage I and II air filters its much more inspiring to ride. Feels like you got a better connection with the engine, and both the sound of ait being sucked into the engine and the exchaust sound is quite inspiring.

Plus, this kind of bike should have a high exchaust! Period! Look at the first pictures of the concept Svartpilen, it had a high exchaust too.

You are wellcome Serg, done about one year ago, it survived to the vibrations..
Philip, thank you very much! I'm very glad that your tail tidy survived the vibrations. Many people don't pay attention to this.
I'm also very interested in your exhaust. Could you tell in more detail, with a photo?
