Coolant Leak

So quick update. I still don't have my motorcycle. The last time I spoke to the dealership (Mid January) I was told that the backorder date was 2/1/23 on the cylinder. Fast forward to today and I hadn't heard anything so I contacted the dealership. I was told that they hadn't received any parts and when they looked it up, there was no longer an ETA listed. I was unsurprisingly a little annoyed. I flat out told the service manager that this was getting ridiculous as I've paid almost $1000 in payments and insurance premiums for a motorcycle I haven't seen in 5 months. The service manager agreed and when I asked what my next course of action should be, he suggested that I contact Husqvarna corporate.

After speaking with the dealership, I contacted the KTM USA corporate number. This is where things start to get interesting. Mainly because the individual I spoke too seemed more annoyed than I am that this is taking so long. He took some of my information and said that he needed to contact the dealership to figure out exactly what they were waiting on and then he needed to check with HUSQ suppliers to see IF (not when) they could even get the parts and then he would contact me with what I wanted to do. Obviously the big kicker here is how he worded IF we can get the parts. I guess I'm at the mercy of KTM and won't know anything else until they reach back out to me in a few days. I'm kind of confused as to where this goes now, especially if they just can't get the parts. The one thing that I know for certain is that the Austrian MX bikes are off of my list for when I upgrade my KX450 and my Dad went from actively searching for a Norden to swearing he'd never touch a KTM. I'll update again when I hear back from corporate but at this point I'd be surprised if I ever saw my motorcycle again. I'm half tempted to tell the dealership to keep the damned thing and buy a Honda or Suzuki from them. If they were a Yamaha dealership, I'd have probably already had them value it as a trade and put an order in for an XSR900.

@Reed7742 Thanks for the followup on this odyssey. Hopefully the brand and the dealer do right by you and that you hear back from them soon.

@Reed7742 keep us posted.

What's so special btw? A cylinder and a piston probably...
From what I've been told it's just a cylinder/piston/associated gaskets. What I don't get is how you can get away with stopping the manufacturing parts for motorcycles that are still in the warranty period. I'm not sure if the dual sport cylinders and pistons are the same as the pilens so that may be an option, but if I can't get it fixed it's an expensive paper weight and not even worth anything as a trade in. Unfortunately Lemon laws do not apply to motorcycles in Missouri either. Hopefully I'm just overthinking the whole situation and freaking out....which is probably the case.

You sure about that? Talked to a lemon lawyer?
I have not communicated with an attorney that specifically deals with consumer stuff but I'm in legal and read the text of the Law.

(6) "New motor vehicle", any motor vehicle being transferred for the first time from a manufacturer, distributor or new vehicle dealer, which has not been registered or titled in this state or any other state and which is offered for sale, barter or exchange by a dealer who is franchised to sell, barter or exchange that particular make of new motor vehicle. The term "new motor vehicle" shall include only those vehicles propelled by power other than muscular power, but the term shall not include vehicles used as a commercial motor vehicle, off-road vehicles, mopeds, electric bicycles as defined in section 300.010, motorcycles or recreational motor vehicles as defined in section 301.010, except for the chassis, engine, powertrain and component parts of recreational motor vehicles. The term "new motor vehicle" shall also include demonstrators or lease-purchase vehicles as long as a manufacturer's warranty was issued as a condition of sale.

That being said, maybe an attorney that specifically deals with this stuff might know a loop hole or something. If it comes to the point where I need to contact an attorney I'll definitely keep that in mind.

Another update since I spoke to Husq corporate earlier.

Apparently they've made the parts for a lot of bikes but they've been stuck in a port in Virginia for several months. The closest thing to an ETA that I was given was "6-8 weeks out at least". I also found out that Husq was covering 100% of flat rate labor (plus parts/fluids) and my dealership was less than truthful with me as they told me that "Husq was only covering 3 hours of labor". Maybe I'm just pissed off at this point (actually I'll admit that I'm really pissed off at this point), but IMO it's bullshit that the dealer is charging me anything past the flat rate, especially since I've been charged the flat rate on oil changes/tire mounts. You don't just get to pick and choose what services are flat rate. I need to call the dealership and talk to them about the labor costs. Honestly, I understand the logistics issues that Husq is experiencing. It's frustrating, but I get it. The fact that customs just refuses to step foot on their ships (Husq's words) is much more palatable than "We stopped making parts for these".

After voicing my frustration with everything, the lady that I spoke to (who was honestly super helpful) opened another ticket, but this time with customer service. She's also going to reach out to her superiors, and the dealership, to see what they can do about total labor costs as this has taken much longer than it should.

At this point, I'm just glad that I have 2 other bikes since I'll miss the start of riding season waiting on this. I've had a little faith restored in Husq, but I'm probably going to offload the bike and find something else or just leave a vacant spot in the stable until I find something that really blows me away. I love the svart but honestly I haven't missed it in my garage. The other 2 have scratched the itch during some unseasonably warm weather and, apart from less wheelies, my rides haven't been less enjoyable than they would have been on the Svart.

@Reed7742 I dont blame you for being frustrated, I know I would be as well.

Hopefully this whole ordeal tips the scales in your favor to get the repairs made. No matter the outcome if you keep the bike or sell it, the repairs need to be made or the bike can be considered a paper weight.

But, you are a lucky man to have several bikes at your disposal! Out of curiosity, are the 701's made in Austria or India?

Fun update today. I received a call from the dealership saying that my bike was good to go. I asked if Husqvarna had contacted them about the whole labor issue and the dealership confirmed that they had been in contact. I walked in to the dealership, they tossed me my keys and said we square. Total parts was new piston, cylinder, head/base gaskets, and all relevant soft parts. I haven't had a chance to ride it (other than the ride home) so fingers crossed that everything is good to go and fixed. I'm still undecided if I want to trade it in or sell it, so I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Wow. That was a surprising end to the story. Good to see. Hope it stays up and running. What an ordeal.
