Vitpilen vs Van

So this is what happens when the van in front of you decides to reverse without checking what’s behind him.

I managed to bail out and got away unharmed. The bike ended up under the van.

It’s only metal and I’m happier that I’m fine but still really annoying. I think it’ll be touch and go whether it’s written off.

Looks far off from a write-off as all I am seeing is mud on the fork plus a busted headlight & exhaust can.
Glad you are unhurt.
Were you on the bike when this van initially backed into you?
Did you make use of your bike’s horn?

Unfortunately both fork legs need replacing as they have chunks of metal missing. Front wheel is twisted as well.

I was on the bike when he started reversing and got on the horn but apparently he didn’t hear it. I managed to get off the bike as it got hit. The vans wheel went over the bike hence the damage.

Totalled.

Edit: (guestimate)
-if the frame is not bent-
Forks 2000 bucks
Tripple Clamps 700 bucks
Front Wheel 700 bucks
Headlight with holders 800 bucks
Tacho 500 bucks
Akro pipe 1000 bucks
Other little stuff 500 bucks
Labor 1300 bucks

--> good your ok

If they total it are you allowed to buy it back from the insurance company in the UK? In the US you can get it back really cheap and build a sweet track Vitpilen or modified road bike, maybe use a cheap sport bike front end like the yellow vitpilen.

Yeah. Generally if the cost of repair (parts and labour) is more than 60% of the value then they will write it off. I’ll have the chance to buy it back pretty cheap but will see what they offer.

I’ll see what the insurance says. I might look at a svartpilen.

For now I’m riding a Honda nc750x. 58bhp of dullness. Still better than driving a car though.

so finally the insurance company have got their act together and have declared the bike a write off. ive been offered to by the bike back at 20% of the value so i think it's a no brainer as i can get it for around £1200. I'll then look at what to do next. The engine has done 900 miles so even that on it's own is worth more that £1200. Or i keep my eye out for a vitpilen front end and replace it and ride the bike.

Are there any other options for front end? Just thinking of parts that might be more readily available?

ps, if you're in the UK and your insurance company recommend 4th dimension as your claims handler run a mile. they are useless

Depends on what parts are bad on the front end aside from the headlight… I’m sure just about any front end would work with the proper spacers and bearings. The fork tubes are relatively cheap compared to trying to do a whole new front end.

Did it get measured?

Alot of time they wont pay the 500 bucks to get a proper frame/fork measurement done because its highly likely that its bent.

I changed my stock wheels for factory spoked earlier this year so in a box downstairs i have the original wheels plus their disks still with their original S21s on.
The bike had done 2k km when i bought it 10/21 so thats all the use they have had. I have been pondering what to do with them but it could solve your front wheel problem. I am in Cyprus (EU) if you are interested let me know

Thanks guys. The frame is straight. It’s been deemed category n which is non structural in the uk.

There’s now another delay because the insurance settlement has been based on a 401 not a 701 so we are arguing it so I get the right amount of money back.

Not sure when I’ll get the bike back but I’ll pull it apart. If there’s anything major I can always break it but I’m keen to get it back on the road.

I have a pair of stock forks minus the cartridges laying in my garage from when I did my dual disk front end but I am in the US.
