Suddenly, TC fail error comes to my vitpilen 701 *Right after I changed my old battery to new one.* (BS SLA battery)
Before I change my battery, It was 100% good condition.
When TC fail come out with throttle lose, I turned off and re-Key on, there's no TC fail error. but engine check lamp is ON. + Traction control is 100% works.
Battery plugs are tight enough. never loose and 12.5V ~ 14V perfect condition.
I heared that lc4 engine's throttle body often make TC fail..... dammn

Q1. Does dirty throttle body can make TC fail? (total 25,000 km) should I clean it? The air filter box was dirty with oils. (probably Blow-By-Gas)

Q2. 1727264192446.jpg1727264213967.jpg I have this 2 obd2 readers.. But both cannot connect to a ECU. I don't know why... when connect to other bikes, It works.

PS. Fuel tank cover bolt problems are solved. Thanks. :)

Those OBD 2 readers are cheap and less universally adaptable to different bikes and cars.
Buy a better scanner, u don't need to get a supa dupa scanner....just something better.
Either that or take it to a dealer and pay a small fee to get the error codes removed.....personally i like doing things for myself as i never know when your going to need it.

Thanks. 😭 I think 6 to 16 cable is not matching... I'll go to a dealer soon

I have the same exact issue, Have you been able to get it fixed OP?

Battery was changes a couple months ago. TC failure comes on, now cant start the bike. Charged the battery kept the bike unplugged, bike is able to start, but once I put it in first gear, TC failure comes back on and the bike shuts off.

No not yet.. but this morning, TC fail error is gone. I did nothing... I think temporary Throttle Position Sensor error.
I found that dirty foreign object in throttle body makes TC fail. It is Korean website. maybe you can translate in CHROME

Checked the throttle body, looks pretty clean. Some oil from blow by. Is there anyway to trick the ECU to still be able to TC. I always ride with ABS and TC off anyway.

Update post, for other riders.

I replaced the throttle body, the issue went away. Rode for another 500 miles without any issues. At which point the issue is back, however a little bit different this time. Initially, the TC Failure came on, and the engine would not start at all. This time, I just turn the key off, kill switch, key on, kill switch on, then start the engine again. The CEL stays on after this with the same error as before for an open circuit, and after a couple restarts, the CEL goes away.

I am looking into replacing the throttle, inspecting the dash for any moisture (recommended by another rider with TC failure, but no stall). Ill keep documenting the process and updating on this thread.

UPDATE 6/20/2024 TC Failure SOLUTION - Info/ Part Numbers/ Warranty Info.

**2020 Vitpilen 701 -**The failure occurred at 2640 miles. 1yr out of warranty.

SOLUTION - The cause of this issue is a bad Throttle Body which is #1 KTM Part Number 76641001000

There seems to have been a bad batch of this part which causes a connection to break inside. My dealer tech tested all the pins for continuity and found a bad pin.

Warranty - KTM did cover 100% parts & labor, even with my bike being Out Of Warranty - I took my bike to the dealer for diagnosis and expected to pay $150 for just a diagnosis. I suspected the throttle body or the actual throttle/ grip/ potentiometer. My dealer didn't expect KTM to cover it and either did I. However I was fully ready to argue that it should be with only 2640 miles and it happening to so many bikes.

YOU should file a NTSB report if you had this happen to you as well.

The Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 TC Failure is a serious Safety Hazard that is going to kill someone!

I filed a NTSB vehicle safety problem today for the this. Everyone who has had this issue should do the same before someone is killed. After you enter your VIN I choose "speed control" as the issue area. NTSB Website Report a Problem Link

TC Failure and loss of throttle. A "TC Failure" warning will appear on the LCD. The check engine, TC, ABS all then are illuminated. Usually happens after a stop on next acceleration. Motorcycle will lurch forward a few feet and then loose all throttle response. It may then have zero throttle response or go into limp home mode with maybe 10% throttle and 15mph max.

What I tried first: Charging and changing the battery. - Didn't Work!

I thought since I hadn't ridden my bike in just over a month it was the OEM battery which was 3yrs old. It started the bike just fine. I charged it and it tested good but this did not fix the problem.

OEM Battery is a HTZ12A-BS(DA) 12v 10Ah, 200CCA 5.875"L x 3.375"W x 4.125"H

OEM Equivalent is the Yuasa YT12A-BS ( I did not purchase this but this is the reference to use)

NOCO NPL14 is an Awesome Battery - I purchased this lithium battery on Amazon$129 after a lot of research. NOCO whose website is no.co was quick to answer my questions. It was a perfect fit and come charged. The build quality is beyond awesome. They also make excellent matching chargers.

Battery replacement and reset of " check engine" light. - Not a Fix.

Step 1:
Remove the old battery. Wait 1 minute and then go to step 2

Step 2: With no battery in the bike hold the NEG (black) and the POS (red) cables together for 10 seconds. This should reset the check engine light so you don't have to go to the dealership and have them do it. I called my dealer asking about coming down to have it reset and this is what they told me to do. It worked. If you don't do this the bike will be fixed but the check engine light will stay on.

Step 3: Install the new NOCO NPL14 battery.

Step 4: Start the bike and let it warm up for 2-3 minutes. Ride the bike for at least a mile. My TC and ABS lights went off as soon as I started riding but the check engine light went off after I rode about 1 mile.

This worked for a few day then TC Failure was back!!!

Ugh - Step 5:
I tried unplugging and blowing out every electrical connector I could see under the tank and around the engine. Just incase water had gotten into one of the connections. I didn't see any water. It didn't help.

Now just take it to the dealer and have them replace the Throttle Body. KTM should cover it even out of warranty. - Good luck

Hope this helps someone. Sten

I’ve just resolved the TC Failure on my bike. I was getting a P2120 code which pointed at the throttle assembly. I decided to take the throttle assembly out and the e-gas electrics are potted, which in my experience is quite reliable so I was suspicious on the wiring loom.

There are so many ‘tight’ clips in the loom from factory that it’s no wonder many have faced this issue! Also the fact that throttle loom wraps around the fork through the headlight enclosure - highly stressed spots.

I took the complete assembly out and sliced into the sheath of the sections with the most apparent ‘creases’ from the cable ties (mainly one that was super tight) and immediately spotted a wire break.

I stripped/soldered/wrapped this wire and tried probing continuity across the other wires but was rather difficult so ended up reassembling, reset codes and started the bike, no more fault and felt like the throttle had new life breathed into it again.

I highly recommend anyone that hasn’t faced the issue, to loosen up the wiring loom from the throttle assembly! Get rid or loosen some of the factory ties.

If anyone else has replaced this assembly before and still have the old one, would be good to understand if the faulty one had a wire break too.
