Searched the forum but couldn't find any posts regarding alternative tyres for the Svartpilen. The MT60RS is OE fitment but wondered what else is available? It should be suitable for mainly road riding but not totally losing the rugged look and potential of some light off road/gravel tracks. My favorite at the moment is the Dunlop Mutant that has received rave reviews. However I have yet to find one on a sub 200Kg bike!?

OK so I'll answer myself! This YT video has made up my mind to get the Dunlop Mutants.

I think the Mutants would work great for the rugged looks and road manners. They are not cheap though! I couldn’t find many meaningful reviews on lighter bikes either, a few heavy touring bikes with them on but the price put me off for my Svartpilen 401. Also wanted to try a 140 rear, not yet available in the Mutants.

They also tested the Mutant on the Duke 890; and are very pleased with it.
It's of course not as extremely sporty and sticky as the Sportmax; but the damping is better and it also works very good in colder weather and in wet conditions.

I have Michelin Anakee Adv on mine.
They work great. I got OEM sizes both front and rear, the profile seems a lot rounder on the wheel, and the rear appears (to the eye) a bit wider than the stock MT60RS.

Thanks for the replies guys. (Apologies for my delayed response but for some reason I didn't receive any reply notifications!?)
Anyway being as I'll mainly be ripping up tarmac and only venturing down the occasional gravel track the Mutants look to be the right ones for me. As for price, yeah sure they ain't the cheapest but I learnt a long time ago that skimping on tyres is false economy!

Thanks for starting this thread.
I like the MT60 RS, but less than 3k miles from a pair is unacceptable! I read one reviewer that reckons there was no discernible wear on his Mutants after 6k miles and thinks 10k should be achievable. Think I'll give them a go too.
