I completely agree on the 3 mounting points and on the other side the weight of the KTM crash cage. That’s why I made mine.I have the T-Rex crash bars and im on the fence about looks. Thankfully I havent had a chance to test, but be sure I will be updating this post if I do lol.
My thoughts on the subject:
- KTM bars have more mounting points : better force distribution where as the T-rex only has 2 points, lower engine mount and frame mount. The KTM I believe has 3 that are evenly distributed. Looks wise, I think it blends with the trellis frame ok.
- Weight: The KTM bars are pretty heavy compared to the T-Rex. I am a weight weenie when it comes to bicycles and motorcycles . This is the sole reason why I went with T-Rex was to save weight, had nothing to do with looks. hopefully its not at the expense of my bike but we will see.
During the practice of my last race, a guy had a massive low side in front of me (in a very quick turn). He had a 690 Duke with the crash cage. He keep riding after that and finished 3rd of the race ! I didn’t see the bike after, but I’ll ask him next time how bad the cage was.
