Who has rear swingarm spools on their 401? I've searched, but it seems most don't fit with the OEM license plate bracket, and some have the wrong threads. Let me know what you're using that either worked right out of the box, or what you had to do to make it work. Pictures appreciated, thanks!

When I had the license arm on I used the Original ones I got from the dealership and purchased a longer bolt for the left side. M10x70 I think... it says which length you need in the user manual that came with the bike.

I must have paid like 1 dollar plus 1 dollar postage from an online bolt place.

I still use the original ones, and now that i relocated the plate, both original bolts.

I treid other ones but none had the right thread, so be careful!

Thanks all for the feedback! Well, my solution ended up avoiding the spools altogether and buying a 1000lb rated swing arm lift from Harbor Freight for $36. After adjusting the little swing arm platforms, it does the job nicely and the bike is stable. Still in the wrapper in case it didn't fit or if it felt wobbly.

I used one like that too until I got it figured with the spools.

I changed for 3 reasons:
1. It always hit my oiler when i put it in or pulled it out and required more finess than the spools.
2. My stand puts it much higher in the air with the spools vs. Rubber pads.
3. Because of where the pads sit, it was "easier" to wipe down the chains with spools instead (and I wipe down & oil my non sealed chain like every day...)

My stand will lift a bike with rubber pads or with spools. With the pads, I didn't feel like it was safe putting it in the stand alone and switched to spools.

Yeah, by the 5 or 6th time I almost dropped it when trying to line up the rubber pads I said "f(orget) that"

Mine is original KTM in Orange (better for delineation) and also has both attachments.

I don't know how much of a difference they make in a smooth lift, but I have Oxford Spinner Spools. I figured they would get less scratched up and so far look like new.

Mine are definately scuffed.

I had black plastic ones on my last bike, they doubled as sliders and didnt scuff.

The scuffs make the 401 look "rugged" 🙈

I have found that a 50mm long works and a 70 mm is too long. I'm using the 50 mm but looking to purchase a 55 to 60 mm in the future.

I made a 1/2" spacer using a nylon nut that I ground the edges down to the same outer diameter as the socket head cap screw. The nylon nut also keeps the bobbin set tight on the socket head cap screw. I needed an additional spacer to get to 1/2" so a few modified washers did the trick. Make sure anything you use as a spacer is not bigger than the socket head of the M10 screw. Any bigger will run the risk of cracking the cast aluminum tire hugger.

The difference comes from the type of bolt amd how they are measured:

The 70mm ones listed in the manual are the type on the right, the one you are using is the type on the left.

Either way works, just check behind the arm that not too much threads are exposed either from the threaded hole or the threaded bolt.

Here's what worked perfectly for my 2021 Svartpilen 401:

1. Left side bolt - 10mm x 1.5mm x 65mm ss metric socket cap bolt from BoltDepot.com Part #6473 (perfect length - finishes flush with the back of the swingarm)

2. Right side bolt - 10mm x 1.5mm x 45mm ss metric socket cap bolt from BoltDepot.com Part #6469 (threads on the bolts supplied with the spools were the wrong size)

3. Vortex SP402K Black 10mm Swingarm Spool from Amazon (+-$20, quality seems very good, especially for the price) The bolts that come with the spools are silver, not black as shown but it doesn't matter as they're the wrong thread size anyway.

I also have a 2021. Just picked up my first nail in the rear tire and am in the process of replacing it. Using this setup, you were able to leave the license plate holder in place?

Question to Cirrusly (and to y'all): doesn't the right hand side spool conflict with the exhaust, if/when the rear shock is compressed a lot?
Very good question.

Short answer: No, the right spool will not conflict with the OEM exhaust when the shock is fully compressed.

Long answer: I hadn't even considered it, so I had to go out to the garage and take a look. I measured the distance of the spool from the swingarm, and the distance from the swingarm to the inside edge of the stock exhaust. I'm not sure that the shock can actually compress far enough to be an issue, but if it can according to my measurements the spool will still clear the stock exhaust by approximately 3/8" (9.5mm).
