Svartpilen & Vitpilen 250 in Top 5 Motorcycles of the Year by Evo

I think I understand why demand for this class is higher in Europe and Asia, but is that the only reason they aren't available in the US? Do they just not sell in the US for infrastructure (freeways) and cultural (bigger is better!) reasons? Before I found a deal on my Vitpilen, I even called the Husqvarna dealer in Baja California to see if they had a 250, though I didn't go as far as researching the feasibility of importing one.

Many countries, but not the USA, have tiered licensing laws and the easier cheaper licenses do not allow larger motorcycles. So that provides a much bigger market for the smaller bikes in those countries.
For the USA, I don't think the smaller bikes are that much cheaper, and we do have rather high speed highways, so people are often less interested.
As to importing a bike not designed for the USA, emissions regulations make that essentially impossible.
