Svart 701 - 14 tooth front sprocket.

I'm not really sure what too much rubbing looks to be honest. Worst case scenario, I guess it wears out a bit faster.
It just seemed the easiest and cheapest way to tweak my gearing. Plus I lost rotating weight instead of adding it.
I do realize it may possibly wear things faster though.
While I'm all for losing weight, especially unsprung rotating weight, I'd like to look into 17/48 gearing when I'm due for a new setup. There's some nice lightweight and good looking bigger rear sprockets that I reckon would look bloody good on the svart. Sorta more of a dirt bike look.

I played around with the gearing as well - the std gearing is very bad and much too tall. I'm surprised they got away with this, as you have to drop into 1st for some riding that you should never have to be in first gear.

Tried with a 42t in the rear, and liked the change, so added in a 15t front. The rideability was a definite improvement, but the bike needed a 7th gear at speed. I tried this for several weeks, then accepted that it was now too short, and pulled the 42t rear and put it back to OEM 40t. (The biggest ratio change is to the front - swapping out the 16 for a 15 made a bigger change than 40->42.)

I think the 15t front and std rear is the best compromise of rideability vs. "higher speed riding needing another step up in gearing." Very happy with the change - still puzzled by Husky's std gearing ratio. It's very bad for low-speed maneuvering, esp in residential neighborhoods.

What sort of speeds are you cruising at that made the 15/42 too low?

My 14/40 is a touch lower than that. Cruising at 130kmh, the wind and fear of police are what stops me from cruising any faster, so that's about my fastest sustained cruise speed. When I want to go faster than that for a quick blat, there's plenty left to do so and working up through the rev range in top gear is part of the excitement for me!
