Hi all,
I see mention of this on the Vitpilen community forum.

So today I had my second outing/ride on my new 2020 701 Vitpilen, whilst stopped, get back on the bike, put the side stand up, and notice it won't go fully up, put it down, and back up, then it went fully up, however then I have a side stand down display on my dash, with it up, and no go when putting into gear..!!!
Seems the switch uses a magnet, mounted/glued into a hole on the side stand, and the magnet had come out, meaning one is stranded.
So mention of this going back to 2018/19 bikes also, seems they never fixed there problem back at the factory, so I need to talk to my dealer on Monday.

Anyone else had this problem here.?

Cheers Jeremy

Check out this thread lots of details and pictures:

Seems its a KTM, and Husqvarna problem, and strange they still have the problem on 2020 model bikes, One would think they would have found a fix at the factory the first year of the failure, add to that if one needs a new magnet, it only comes mounted from Husqvarna/KTM, attached to a new side stand, Not available to order on its own. And owners are off the road for weeks/months while new stands are ordered in, BAD BAD BAD...
Now a bit of FYI, I played around with other magnets on the bike, and found this can be made to work with a magnet from the model airplane world, I have a few different size magnets in my collection of gear, one that went into the hole on the side stand, with a wrap of duct tape, and testing was a result, now to decide what glue to use, and thinking maybe a wrap of tape, or heat shrink over the glued in magnet, try keep it there...
The stock magnet is 6mm dia, 4mm deep, my working test magnet, 5mm dia, 4mm deep, so some extra glue needed to fill the hole if I used that, but it works which is the main thing.

Yes, the red dot seems to be paint on the magnet, which has come off after some handling and duck tape on it.
The glue the factory uses Is minimal, and not flexible, which is Im thinking where the problem lies.

What’s the preventative fix for this? Can we stick some gorilla glue in the hole on top of the magnet, I wonder...

I cleaned out the old glue in the hole, washed with paint thinners, and used JB Weld glue to reattach my magnet, so far its staying there :)

So while installing a new pipe on my ‘19 701 I noticed the magnet on my side stand was loose. I touched it with a screwdriver tip and it came right out. Mine didn’t appear to have any sort of adhesive on it at all, and the hole has a pressed in steel insert- I think the engineers were relying on the magnet sticking to this metal ring.

So I cleaned it all with alcohol and epoxied the wee magnet in place.....

And discovered that my side stand would now not activate the switch. Why? The bloody switch is pole sensitive and I had glued the magnet in upside down! That red dot visible on the magnet in the picture above is there for a reason.

So- before you glue your magnet in place test the stand switch to make sure you have it oriented correctly. I eventually got mine sorted, but lost a few hours of riding time in the process.

Good guidance - I put a drop of epoxy over mine before it became loose so avoid that issue!

This so funny to me because I was at the track last weekend and same thing happened to me. I was scrambling for a fix on which wires to loop to find out I placed the magnet back in the wrong way. Live and learn!
