Afternoon folks! I'm wondering if anyone's had much success replacing the battery in a 2019 Svartpilen 401, so the earlier model.

The listed HTZ12A-BS isn't easy to find, so I'm looking for alternatives. Nothing I can find that looks like it'll fit matches the 200CCA listed for the original battery, is that an issue? I see the default battery for the Duke 390 has a lower CCA and some batteries being sold as suitable for my bike are as low as 135. Has anyone fitted a battery with a lower CCA?

There are also a few listed that are a bit taller at 110mm or 130mm, rather than the original 105mm. Has anyone tried fitting one and can say whether it fitted OK?

I've had a few issues with clicking when trying to start it. I did try tightening the starter relay connections and it started after that, but had a problem again the next day. I'd left it connected to a charger/conditioner but left it unplugged from the mains for a week or 2, which drained the battery. My charger says it's retaining charge, but a battery shop was unable to test it, their tester said there was a drain on it, even when disconnected from the bike, so I'm confident it's not right.

Hi Jamie, I'm in the same boat as you looking for a replacement battery, What did you go for in the end? cheers Dave

Hi, I upgraded the battery during the bike's first winter.
I have used MotoBatt on all my bikes for years and they have not let me down (I ride daily all year round).
It's listed as 160CCA and it's noticeably stronger than the stock battery (I have the 2021 model).

My bike lives outside, the stock battery needed a charge if not ridden for 2 days in sub 5 degree temperatures (hence the quick replacement).
The upgraded battery lasts about a week in near zero temperatures if not ridden.

Wemoto is a good place to start looking at alternative options, then shop around once you've picked the one you want.

Hope this helps.

I run a Shorai, it is almost 6 pounds lighter than the stock unit and has plenty of power. But I don't ride in freezing weather, lithiums need to warm up to get their full output.

Does Anti-Gravity have an application for your 401?

I've had one in my 701 for 3+ years now. Got rid of 6# and added almost double the CCA's.

But yeah, to answer the OP's query...yes, the more CCA's the better.
