So.
I have just over 2500 kms on my 901 and last Sunday I went for a ride on purpose in the rain. A person has to be confident that an adv motorcycle will operate as it should in adverse conditions, plus I am one of those people that actually enjoy riding a bike in the rain. Especially off road.
I picked a route off my Riser app map and proceeded on my way and did a 3 hour , 233 km loop, mostly on hard pack forest service roads that were wet but not extremely so. It was a blast, a really fun ride and the 901 was so much fun with the off-road traction control and the abs is amazing.
On my way I noticed quite a bit of sand getting on my tank and dash all over and I also noticed sand on my knees and thighs.legs.
when I got back to my hotel and got off the bike, I was amazed to see quite of bit off sand on my seat.
Then, OMG, my pssenger seat, Holy crap! There was an inch of mud on it! The whole back of the bike was covered in a layer of mud!
I removed my back pack and it was completely covered with an inch or so of mud! The back of my helmet was covered! My jacket was covered in mud where the backpack didn’t cover it! Holy shit!
I have never had a bike that covers me in mud like this! The rear fender is doing nothing! It must be spraying up like a rooster tail! Did Husqvarna not ever mention that the rear fender is useless?
what will happen when I finally get those racks for my bags I ordered 5 months ago? What about all the gear like my bags, luggage , tent and sleeping bag when I hit the roads and encounter rain and wet roads? They will get covered in mud?
I am really quite pissed that this bike soaks my back and throws sand and mud all over me on a ride!
Not impressed.
I intend to seek out a Husqvarna rep to ask what the hell.
Anyone who reads this, do you have the same issue or have any of you actually ridden this bike off-road in the rain?
I want a fender that actually works.
If there is no rectification for this issue I will not have this bike long…

I’m not talking about being stupid, I’m talking about adventure touring and how the rear fender doesn’t stop all the shit from flying up on your back and covering everything with mud. I don’t ride through mud pits.

Many people never venture far from the pavement... so why should they add weight to the bike when only 5-10% of the customers need it, and propably would prefer their own trusted solution if they do.

You can get huggers, mud flaps, fender extender, the list could go on forever baby...

Here is an example

Edit: by the way... on my old 401 I purchased original "wet weather package parts" which were standard on bikes in particular Asia markets where wet is the only weather for a majority of time in certain seasons.

Research solutions = achieve goals
Complain = recieve tissue

Thanks for the link. The Norden fender is different than the 890 so that extender wouldn’t work but the idea is sound. I may just make my own. No need for tissues, but that’s what forums are for. Discussion is not complaining…

Tissue comment was primarily focused on the statement above.
- "got an issue, have a tissue" 😎

Most are always happy to help in this forum it seems, though reguardless of how significant the help may or may not be, if you dont like the bike, nobody here will convince you otherwise.

I’m no stranger to forums. I dont need you to explain how helpful people on forums are.

Again thanks for the link. As I am an an adventure rider and do many kms off-road , mostly forest service roads, I’m pretty sure that dinky cheap and god awful GIVI experiment wouldn’t last long. Husqvarna dropped the ball on the rear fender. Today I rode 5 kms to work in light rain and the pillion seat and my backpack and back of my helmet were covered in road grime. Totally unacceptable on a $17 000 bike! You think that is a tissue wiping complaint? Stop defending an obvious design flaw. I notice your bragging doesn’t include the Norden so you don’t even own one. Have a great time looking for more options for me…

l’ll be riding a few hundred mile on my N901 beginning this upcoming Monday with most of it in the rain (unfortunately). I’ll report back on the rear wheel spray results.

Really, please post some pictures so others can see for themselves exactly what you are talking about.
I did post the picture of Lyndon above as a joke, but I really do suspect he rode it into that puddle and from this angle he doesn't look to horribly covered with mud.

No rain today. It was smooth sailing on the backroads to Natches, MS.
I only encountered one 5 minute downpour until finding cover under a Church awning.

This issue with the rear fender not protecting you while riding down a simple forest road is concerning. I have viewed several reviews of the bike and do not remember it being mentioned. Possibly the 2023 have a different fender and that is why I have not heard of this?
