I did my first oil change on my recently purchased 2019 Vit 701 (2660Km) and used only a reasonably expensive Fully Synthetic 15W/50 oil and was very happy with the results. It's something I'm going to stick with.
Generally I'm pedantic with oil/fuel/air, however I couldn't see the point in paying unnecessarily for the recommended oil or other big brand oils.
To my way of thinking u need a GOOD fully synthetic oil, but not with an inflated price.

Don't apologise for using Penrite. It's good value because the freight costs are lower in Oz and NZ but I have been using it for my motorbikes and Alfa race cars for years. Repco have regular specials on Penrite oils that make it even better value if you shop early for the next oil change. Enjoy your Vitpilen this summer!

That was no apology....no need to apologize if u believe your right.
That was my subtle way of letting other members be aware that there are just as good but more cost effective oils out there. Instead of paying through the nose for these so called "Supa Dupa" oils that are probably sourced from the same place and rebranded.
Like u I have used Penrite for many years in my performance bike and 401 and a different weight for my car...still Penrite full synthetic.
Sparesbox on ebay special sells 4L for AU$73.34 delivered, and I have never had a problem with them.
PPl in other countries instead of sweating that they don't use the crazily priced recommended oil should know sourcing cheaper doesn't necessarily equate to lesser quality.
Thanks for your support...maybe this thread can save members/non members $$$ in these harsh times and still get the protection the bike deserves.

how do you feel going from the 401 to 701? i was initially leaning towards the 801...but the 701 is tempting for the price
how long did you ride the 401?

I still have the 401 although i MUCH prefer the 701. The 701's weight is only slightly more and it is slightly lower than the 401 but the fit and finish is way better (made in Austria as apposed to made in India)
The power/quick shifter/overall quality/cooler running/etc, is chalk and cheese.
Don't get me wrong.......anything can be improved....401,701,801,etc etc.........just depends on how much time/money and effort your prepared to spend.

These LC4 engines in the Vit & Svart bikes are really pretty special. Much more so than another parallel twin. Why do you think Ducati started building singles again (albeit with less torque)?
Back to the thread, I have only been using full synthetic Motul or Motorex. Cheers!

I had a Vit 401 for about a year or so. Now have a Vit 701. Probably unsurprisingly the bike feels more premium in every way. The power is plenty for road use. The bike feels much more comfortable I think.
