Oil flushing tips?

I have done my first oil flush on the Vit, and I found it quite messy : most of the oil fall on the cat, and I could not clean all of it. As a results smell of burnt oil for the first rides, and even some smoke the first time.
For the next time I was thinking of removing the cat which is quite a hassle for an oil flush or trying to guide the oil with aluminium foil, but my chances of success are slim.
Am I doing something wrong? Do you have any tips?

Thanks!

I installed one of those quick release oil pan drain plug. I also ordered an adapter that lets me connect a tube so the oil goes straight into the oil pan. Makes for a very clean oil change but I don’t have a magnetic drain plug anymore.
