In the market for my first bike and really digging the 2019 Svartpilen 701. Just a bit concerned about the recall history.

Would love to know from current Vit/Svart 701 owners: any ongoing issues you’ve had after doing all of the recommended recall work?

Cheers!

700 cc single is pretty big for a first bike.

Either way the 690/701 is good on fuel, hard on tires.

And... its not a Honda, so if your expecting to get a Honda then its better to get a Honda instead.

Welcome @Snoozer80,

I had no ongoing issues neither before or after the recalls. It's like with every technical thing, you can have luck or pitch.
I had a leaking clutch cover and a leaking rear shock. Both there exchanged over manufacturer warranty.
If you don't have two left thumbs, you don't need a Honda, especially then you like the look of the Svartpilen.

The only recalls I know of are:
-Clutch slave cylinder: I replaced mine with an oberon before the recall, so can't say if this recall has finally fixed the leaking slave issues.
-license plate holder: someone mounted the license plate holder incorrectly after maintenance and almost lost it mid ride.
Just make sure it's mounted properly 🤷🏽‍♂️
-fuel tank: this was prone to leaking on the fuel pump flange ( I suspect due to ethanol in fuel warping the plastic)
Best is to avoid fuels that contain ethanol.
The new tank has a thicket flange for the fuel pump which should not warp. It does reduce the (already limited) tank capacity even further.

I think a big single is not the way to go on a first bike. They require a little more finesse and oversight than twins or smaller displacement singles.

I would look at an FZ07. Fabulous bikes. Easy to ride. Good luck.

Hmm, the ABS, Traction & Wheelie control certainly help while the displacement facilities not wanting to trade up to a larger bike. It seems to me that the biggest obstacle to beginning on a 701 is it’s seat height with newbies not realizing that the 350 lbs is easily manageable & that one spends most of the time with feet on the pegs instead of the ground.

Agree, low weight and seat height is a plus and the electronic controls of other things help newbees, but I'm more referring to the general irascibility of a big single. It takes finesse to ride smoothly and likes to shake like hell if lugged and doesn't like to pull cleanly in high gear and low engine speed. It's not the displacement. I rode the FZ07, same displacement, and it pulled like a tractor from 2500 and was very easy to ride without having to be concerned too much about engine speed. My position is I would send new riders to a <600cc ish displacement and at least a twin. IMHO.

Beside all that good recommendations, please make your own experiences while going out for a test ride (if possible).

Whats wrong with buying something with 4 cyl., crash bars and Fuel Injection for less than a thousand bucks and learning first how to maintain and where not to park, who not to let borrow, and especially whether or not you actually like to own & ride motorcycle in general.

That way you learn the ropes and just can sell again whatever you decide.
