Hi everyone, just picked up a new 2020 Svart 701 and I have a question. When riding, if RPMs drop under 3k the bike chugs and thumps like it's about to stall or it's misfiring. When cruising, say in 5th at 4k, it feels like your are riding a bike with oval wheels. I know it's a big single and that's probably normal, but with all the bragging about counter balancers making it a smooth single, I wonder if something is wrong with mine. It also sounds like it's grinding in the bottom end at idle. With all your experience, would you say this seems normal?

According to my experience, if you want to avoid the rattle in low revolutions, remove the db killer and do not spend money on magic solutions, you will not remove it completely but if at 90 /

Good to hear, coming from other bikes it just felt unnatural to lug like that, I usually don't need to shift to 1st around town either but on this I do.

In my case, I received my new Svartpilen with zero miles on it. During my first ride, the bike ran pretty rough. It took about 50 miles for the computer to figure out the proper fueling. And it just got better and better from there.

I haven’t had my Vitpilen that long but I think it’s pretty safe to say it’s one of the most mechanically noisy engines I’ve ever had. It seems like it’s always making some kind of weird noise but runs and rides fine and doesn’t seem to be getting worse over the 2k miles I’ve put on it so I think it’s just normal.
Max had a great point with the gearing, stock it is way to high. I went to a 15 up front but it was geared a little low riding on our interstates out here so I went back to stock up front and put a 42t on the rear and it’s about perfect. I would throw the 15 on the front if all I rode was around town but I do a lot of higher speed riding. My bike doesn’t like to be below 4K rpms..

Thanks for all the input, it's good to hear it's normal and I like the idea of re-gearing especially since I've only hit 6th once. 42 rear stock front sounds like a good all arounder, would I need a new chain for that change?

On my bike the 15t on the front maxed out the adjusters with the stock chain but the 42 works fine. Depends on how much your chain is stretched I guess.

No way this works on a 401?
I think Kev mostly make these for the big thumpers. Check his ebay store on the link in previous post if there's other versions available, or send him a mail through ebay and ask him. I think you can find him on the KTM forums as well.
