Ugh, it's been almost 3 years since I sold my last motorcycle - adv/touring for long trips.
Moved to new country, had kids (yeah, yeah I know, covid kids). So there won't be any long term adventures for a while.
I started looking for something to move around town and go out to work for the day in a coworking space (home office driving me crazy), and also something capable to do short day trips and very. very light offroading - just to get to places.

That being said - cue the Svartpilen 401 (photos, of course, below). 2021 - no adjustable front suspension :(.... (something about this country's version)

I've put probably 30 miles since the weekend and am loving the platform.

That being shown (and said) - I did notice a small "dink" on the left side of the engine case. Looks like a piece was chipped off while assembly or something, but it seems that many bikes have this as well (just me looking at high-res pictures online and asking the dealer). Haven't been able to find a straight answer. But is this expected?

I just went to check my bike, and it's the same as yours. It might be for a holding stud used at some stage of manufacture that is then ground off once it's no longer needed.

Thanks for checking!
I did a bit more digging online and seems to be the same.
I'm willing to bet 2019 and before didn't have this "thing" like that, but I'll leave it at that. The least they could have done is apply some thermal paint or something :)

Welcome!

The 401 is a great bike.

My 2019 didnt have adjustable front suspension and it was still cool.
Also, for the ground off engine, I wonder if this isnt a relic from the old exhaust routing, to make the needed clearance, and still done for backwards compatibility.

I dont recall looking at or picturing what the head looked like behind the header.

Thanks!
It does make sense that is some leftover from the same engine + old header routing.

As per suspension, I have not had the need to adjust anyways. Seems pretty versatile the way it is. I'll take it for a tougher spin in the next few days.
