I just picked up my new 2024 401, obligatory pic attached.

I have a question. I have put maybe 200 km on the bike and I have noticed on several occasions - meaning maybe 10 times in 200 km - the turn signal will shut off by itself. At first I figured it was operator error - maybe I didn’t fully slide the switch all the way left or right - but it has happened enough times that I am wondering if it is a known thing that others have seen?

An example - driving straight, put on signal to indicate a turn, and it has shut off before I get to the turn. Not after the turn, before. I am a new rider, so maybe it is me? (I can’t think of anything I am doing wrong)

Any one have any ideas? Thanks for any insight / advice.

I do not think it is ‘you’ in the 701 part of this site (5th post from top) someone had the same issue with their bike. If it were my new bike I would return to the dealer I bought it from to diagnose the issue. Ask them for an explanation of what causes the issue. I really doubt you can cause this problem yourself.
If that sorts the problem you could then come back to let everyone on here how you got on, also you could maybe go on the 701 forum on here and that could possibly help the other user out.

Good advice.
Make certain it's not u and then progress from there. With anything in life always go from simple to complex solutions..............you'll get there.

If your convinced it's not u then contact your dealer immediately is it's important that any traffic knows your intentions . Be seen ,be heard.
With my new Vit everything was working fine but he let me bring my bike in at 800 km for it's first service and still retain my warranty. It didn't bother him that i had a Fuel X ,DNA air box mod and K&N filter mod and Kelpi muffler.
Some dealers let u bring your bike back early, some don't. I doesn't hurt to get more background on your dealer.
PS. I should add that if u bring your bike in early the service light will come on at 1500-1800 km and u will have to bring it back to get this removed, free of charge naturally.

Do the '24 401s have self canceling turn signals?

Congratulations! Did you get a Svart or a Vit?
 
Svartpilen. After it happened a couple of times my brother - who was following me - said the same thing - do they self-cancel?

I went to the manual and checked, no, they don’t self cancel.

I’m going to give it a few days, take a cursory look under the seat at the wiring, and if no joy, head to the dealer. Hoping their diagnostics may read an error?

Don't leave it a few days as it's a safety issue. Ring the dealer ASAP and perhaps he can offer suggestions or has heard of this problem before.....personally i haven't.
If he knows what's going on the least he can do is make it HIS priority to fix.
 
You should give them a test whilst stationary with your engine running, just count how long they stay on for. If they do not cancel after a certain amount of time then a try and test them in a car park (parking lot) or similar whilst riding and turning. I must admit self cancelling indicators that turned off after say 10 seconds rather than after actual turning ( like on a car) would annoy me. Yes it is a pain having to turn off motorcycle indicators after the turn but having to keep flicking that button at a junction waiting for lights or oncoming traffic would wear on me after a while.

On my other bike, the indicator got a tempo : it stops after 10 seconds
I think it's the same for yours.
 
The wording from the 2024 manual. I also went back and took a look at a 2020 Svartpilen manual - the wording is exactly the same - the switch automatically reverts to the centre position, but nothing about self-cancelling. You have to push the switch to cancel, just like the 2020 version.

I suppose it is possible that manufacturer could have installed self-cancelling signals, but forgot to put it in the manual - but you would think they would promote the feature, as it is something you get on typically more expensive bikes - BMW etc.

I will follow Jester1971's advice and report back

If you do a google search for "2024 svartpilen 401 self cancelling indicator", you'll find several reviews/tests mentioning the 2024 bike has self cancelling indicators.
I wouldn't worry about it. 🤷🏻‍♂️
 
Black Arrow....in your original post u say "turn signal"
Are both doing the same thing or is it just one....if both are doing the same then it can't be a fluke ?

OK - I just heard back from Husqvarna Canada. And, as some posters mentioned, the 2024 Canada version does in fact come with self-cancelling indicators.

They call it ATIR automatic indicator reset function. It is not mentioned in manual.

They shut off after 150 metres or 10 minutes. I have not tested the 10 minutes, but it is definitely not 10 seconds. Not related to turning like a car.

I took the bike out and checked, and of course, it works. I went back over some previous roads where I recall them shutting off, and I guess I was signalling too early. At higher speeds, like entering / exiting a highway, 150 metres happens pretty quick.

I like this feature as a backup, but in some cases it can feel like the indicator is on too long after a corner. I know in my part of the world you can get points deducted on a road test if you leave them on too long. And, I can see how it would annoy / confuse drivers following. My default will be to cancel. At least I saved a trip to the dealer.

I googled "self cancelling turn signals turn off too soon".

I think it was a Goldwing that actually has a menu item on the display that allows adjustment of how long they stay blinking.
