New Ducati Single Cylinder 659cc Engine

Interesting, it seems that it gave up about the same amount of torque as horsepower it gained…I kind of like the torque of the 690, I don’t know if 3 extra hp is worth losing 8 ft lbs of torque.. maybe if you use the race trim with 11 extra hp…still losing 8 ft lbs of torque is pretty significant.

It all depends on the power delivery, but yes, bring it on Ducati. Competition is good.

(don't forget the latest Euro 5 690 engines are much peakier than ours..)

Yeah I think I will keep my extra torque at lower rpm. The 18000 mile valve service is crazy though to bad it's desmo . Why is it that only Ducati offer race exhaust and map combos even if they are like 2500 dollars (scrambler)

I think they discovered that a great way to make "a few" extra bucks...

I really hope they'll make a street legal supermono with this engine.
Please make it as pretty as the original, and max 150kg dripping wet on decent suspension and proper brakes.
🤞🏻

I find it interesting that they have chosen the path, like KTM, with balancer shafts instead of staying with their 90degree slave connecting rod engine design.

Yeah, I saw the video. (cringy btw, this bike definitely aimed at the younger generation :-P )

Anyway, it looks the biz, always loved the Hypermotard concept. But also, 150kg without fuel (the SMC is under 150kg WITH fuel), 10Nm less torque at 1000 more rpm...

Anyway, looking forward to a comparo... ps, the exhaust that releases the last 7 ponies costs a ridiculous 3000 dollars...

It's a Ducati, that price it's not surprising.
However, I wonder how close to the claimed HP gain will the aftermarket sector get to while selling at a fraction of the price.

All I cound find for the smc was 149 dry.

It's not the big leap compared to the 690 I was hoping for.
It's down on torque quite a bit. (In standard trim) and power is only slightly higher.
So my guess is for the street, the 690 is a still the better bike. Which I find dissapointing really. I was hoping for more.
But maybe this will motivate KTM to improve on the 690 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well, I weighed my own Vitpilen 701 a while ago, 150kg wet, with a full tank.

(admitted, not stock anymore, but still)

Anyway, we'll have to see how much midrange torque the Ducati engine has.

Got rid of the cat and anything else?

Cat is still there (gives the best midrange torque), but lithium battery, duo pegs delete, sas delete, and some small bits and bobs, yes

Thanks. Yes, that battery is easy and effective. Do you know if the foot peg delete is the same on a Vit and a Svart? Totally unnecessary to have those on my bike.
SAS looks like a real PITA to do for no real improvement other than saving 2(?) lbs.

Sas and carbon canister together is probably 2lbs yes. I basically did that to declutter.

I think the duo footpegs and brackets are the same for the Vitpilen and the Svartpilen 701…

I'm sure with time and aftermarket experience, the Duc power and weight figures will give the 701/690 a run for their money. The torque will be harder to improve (we know that ourselves) but some competition in the sector is good for 2026 701s and 690s.
