I was all set and ready to purchase my new Svartpilen 401 here in Mexico and I noticed a few things.
First off it didn't have the quick-shifter on it.
Second it didn't have the adjustable front forks.
Everything else was good, the paint scheme, longer fender and relocation of turn signals, spoked wheels are the new color. Don't know if the tank brace had the new metal inserts or not.
But two of the main things are not on them here. I don't know why! I asked the sales person and he tells me that it must be a different model that gets sent here in Mexico than the ones the US gets.
This seems like a bunch of hooey to me. So what do you guys think? Is there a way to check if the info the dealer is telling me is true? I was really bummed as I have been researching this bike for some time now and was finally going to go and get it. Damn.

Hi,
Here in Chile is the same situation, no quickshifter and no front adjustable suspension. Maybe they send a basic model to us 😂😂😂

Yeah, you're probably right. But that really sucks so I think I will buy a used one instead of brand new. Someone has one with only 2500 km. So I'll see. Thanks Diego.

Jeez, do they at least cut you a price break on the stripped down model? The quickshifter is neither here nor there (little too rough for my liking), but no adjustable suspension is a big deal especially in areas where you can't necessarily count on having buttery smooth roads.

I take mine all over, and do not consider the stock 18-19 non adjustable front to be a no-go criteria.

And, quickshifter is an easy add on.

What kinda is a bummer is that the road/supermoto mode is not available everywhere.

Well not really, it's the equivalent to the US price. I just don't know why they make a submodel for here and it seems south america. Yes, you are correct. The adjustable suspension is exactly what I need to have down here because of the crappy streets. There are very few smoth roads here in the whole city. But at least the toll roads are smoother.

Well I'm not saying that it's a no-go. I'm definetely getting one. But I'll lean more towards a used one than a new one from the dealership. Yeah that is a bummer on the Supermoto mode. Well actually all the changes not being on it are bumming me out. However, I will still get one because they are just so bad ass and I've only heard good things about it. Thanks everyone.

You are likely to need an aftermarket rear shock anyway, I'm fairly unhappy with mine. And the forks... well... I bet you can pick up a set on eBay within a couple months. I'd check, but I suspect the KTM 390 Duke forks are the same, so that might help with the search.

I agree with the rear shock, for me it made the bike.

I am certain that the front suspension can be improved, but even without adjustment it still works alot better than a ill adjusted racing setup.

I would like point out that I did noticed a huge improvement to suspension performance with the floating front brake installed.

Welcome!

When I was a teen I spent a couple of summers in D.F. and Monterey.

Roads in Puerto Rico are far from perfect, I have a 2019 Svart and the suspension is adequate as it is for roads (haven't taken mine offroad yet). I might consider an aftermarket rear shock in the future but I have no issues with the front suspension.

Regarding the quickshift, the 401 is fairly easy to shift without engaging the clutch, so after some practice, you will see that the quickshift is just not necessary. Moreover as mentioned before, that is a fairly easy thing to add if you really want it.

Saludos!

Joe
