Just had a phone call from my wife to say the bikes been delivered 😁 unfortunately I’m stuck at work for a few more hours 🙄

I’ve done some digging with the previous owner and he’s confirmed that the oil was changed to 10-50 fully synth by the dealer at 320 miles when the recalls were done. It’s only done 15 miles since then.

So question from my side is can anyone advise next steps? I’m hoping it’s just a case of ride the wheels off it now it’s got fully synthetic in it.

Thanks everyone

Tom

Congrats 👏

Check tire pressure, oil level, adjust controls to your liking and just ride it. Needs nothing.

Awesome! I would just recommend checking the chain tension if the previous owner messed with it, it is a little confusing in the manual but if it was done by the dealer I’m sure it’s good. Also give the quick shifter a try, mine wasn’t adjusted right from the factory and it seems like some people have had issues like that..

Thanks everyone.

It’s as fun as I remember it was back when I test rode it in 2020. I need to get used to the skinny rear tyre as the bmw had a 190 rear. I set the suspension to sport which was a bit stiff for the country roads so will back it off a bit.

Fuel dongle is ordered so will do airbox lid, dongle and db killer removal this weekend.

Only issue I found was false neutrals when dropping down from 6th to 5th. I know there’s a spring upgrade that can be done but thinking the linkage might just need a bit of adjustment first.

Power is great, the way it fires from corner to corner is addictive. Full throttle in 3rd is the sweet spot but I can see why some people go for a 15 tooth front sprocket.

All in all a happy man.

...false neutrals ... linkage ... adjustment ...

Congrats on the new bike!

Definately get everything adjusted to you, its just better that way.

As for the tranny... after 10k miles my 401 felt much better than it did at 1500 miles....

...now on my 701 the shifting in general is better than it was in day one; I also expect that with 10k miles its much more better too.

Just went out for another 50 miles and had a blast. The way thing goes round corners amazes me.

I played with the suspension a bit. Wound the rebound in at the front a bit which made it much smoother and less juddery. Think I need a bit more compression as well as the old tie wrap on the fork showed it bottoming out a bit.

Still need to play with the rear shock a bit to get more compliance as it’s like a game of buckaroo at the moment.

What tyre pressures are people running I’m 33/36 as per the manual but thinking I could drop a bit out to make it feel happier on full lean.

Still keeping it below 7k at the moment until I get to 600 miles then the fun can really start. 😃

Keep in mind that the pressures @Reynolds posted are for track use which is close to what I run on the road, but if you have a lot of potholes and such, bump the front pressure a couple of psi to be on the safe side and not damage a rim. 31-32F and 29-30R work well and is pretty safe on this bike. These are cold pressures.

Any tires other than slicks are for beginners. Making the change from a high end DOT race tire to slicks for the first time is an amazing experience. The corner speeds that were once the ragged edge become cruising speeds. Traction at full lean feels like it's being provided by magic. They're gone in 45 minutes at full pace but it's one of the best motorcycling experiences I've ever encountered. Short summary, totally get some slicks out on track.

Agreed. For road use I also run about 2 psi higher than the pressures listed. Because potholes...

Airbox lid off, fuelling dongle and baffle out of the Akra works very nicely aswell.

This must be the best bike to wheelie on as well. I’m pretty rubbish at wheelies but the way the front pops up in first gear is really nice. Second gear clutch ups works really well too.

15 tooth front might need to be next on the list.

I did the airbox lid, fuel dongle and baffle all in one go so no idea if there’s any difference just in the baffle. To be honest I doubt it. It sounds nicer though.

I went for option one as it makes it easier to put the baffle back in. I got one of the Akra rubber bungs to fill the hole.

Fitted a 15 tooth front sprocket yesterday and throttle spacers in readiness for a few hours riding today. Unfortunately the weather didn’t play ball but I got out for an hour or so this evening.

The throttle spacer kit is a must have. All the slop is gone now and it all feels much more direct. Coupled with the 15t front sprocket it makes the front a lot more lively.

Really getting to gel with the bike now, as a tool to blast around country lanes I really couldn’t think of anything better. Roads that were too tight and twisty for my s1kr (coupled with my ability) now feel like the Isle of Man TT. The braaappp is addictive.
