This past weekend I picked up a used 2018 svartpilen 401, main reason being I moved to a wetter climate and low speed commute so I didn’t want to leave my 701 out in the rain and square off it’s tires constantly. So far the 401 has been a lot of fun to rip around on, however, the biggest issue I have is the front brake feel at lower speeds. I assume it is because the rotor is not floating so it is not making perfect contact with the pads at lower pressures. It is really annoying coming up to a stop light. I assume the only way to fix this is with a floating rotor, has anyone here done the swap? I don’t want to get carried away with mods on the 401 since it’s for commuting.

Please post your results with this! I have no pulsation, but am curios of the effect.
Also, please weigh the old rotor and new one if you have a scale handy!

The front rotor is definitely warped because I raised the front end up and rotated it so I am sure that is contributing, but at least a floating rotor will somewhat compensate when it’s warped. I’ll try to weigh them but all I have is a bathroom scale…

I had the MotoMaster Flame Rotor, one on each set of wheels for my 401; it is also a floating type.

Also tested out a few different pad types.

In reality though, I felt like changing from regular brake fluid to Motul RBF 660 was the biggest change in brake performance on the 401.

(In contrast, on the 701 I use normal Motul 5.1 and works just fine)

This is what the 401 brakes weighed on my scale:
• 1598g - Brembo Front
• 789g Brembo Rear
• 1251g - Moto-Master Front for Spoke Wheel
• 1306g - Moto-Master Front for Alu Wheel
• 537g - Moto-Master Rear

It must be a defective rotor. I can't imagine it warping from heat. I've had bicycle rotors warp from heat but they're super thin and light, and, they can strike objects on the trail.
