Hello! New here, I have owned a 2007 SMR510 since about 2010 when I bought it from a Marine officer that had only tracked it with 1500+/- Km on the clock. I rode it for about two seasons and changed the oil and did maintenance etc. etc. I blew out 6th gear being stupid (as one in America was prone to do when you were the only guy in your city riding a plated legal SuperMotard in 2011) around 2500Km and put the bike up. It has sat inside, motionless and dry since then only being moved when I needed to move it or myself. Has, not, run. I went through a few other bikes since then, became addicted to long distance riding, had a child (not me personally but the woman I impregnated), went through the "I need to be responsible and not ride bike phase, then the "I can't live without a bike phase", then got into the FJR platform after buying two GoldWings and missed the acceleration, speed, hual-ass, etc. The whole time I could not let go of the Husky and made sure she sat taken care of and comfy waiting for the day when I could fix her. In that waiting I learned quite a few things that made the lack of progress (or procrastination) increase. This may be old news to most (especially the ones I am hoping to reach) and correct me if what I have read/been told/ learned but the build of that bike was when HQ was owned by Cagiva very briefly and just before it was bought by BMW. The year is the last year the SMR510 was carbed and came with Brembos, Sachs rear, Marzocci front, Magura Hydro's etc. and my main fear and where most of my confusion lies, had a very hard to replace engine and parts.
I will cut to the chase, I don't know what to do with her. I love the bike and everything is mint but the transmission. Nobody will touch it. I don't know where to start with parts and how to locate them if I even can. I don't know what motors will fit in the bike and if that is even an option. I am looking for any and all advice. I have considered everything from welding new engine mounts and dropping another older engine in the frame to even converting it to an E-Bike. Before I go and do something willy-nilly I figured I would see if there are any guys/gals here that are the OG's of these bikes and may have some good advice on where to start or if I even should. I have fully rebuilt a GoldWing and a couple FJR's engines so I do know my way around an inline 4 and flat 6 but thumpers and their gearboxes are something I have little experience with the internals. Again, any questions, advice, help, links are greatly appreciated. Just about anything other then "sell it" as that isn't going to happen.
