My mods and rides - Joe's Svart 401

Hi all,

I've already posted on the intro thread, but wanted to add more details regarding the bike and my rides. As said earlier, this is my first bike in 25 years, so although I used to ride as a kid, and I've ridden bicycles all my life, it still feels as a "new thing"... I know I have much to learn.

Regarding my Svart, it's a 2019 which I bough from a friend with only a 1,000 miles and a couple of mods:







Previous owner changed the brake and clutch levers, brake reservoir cap, added the USB charging cable, removed the rear license plate and turn signals mount, fabricated a new license plate and turn signals mount under the rear fender and added sequential LED turn signals. He's an aviation mechanic, so everything was done rather nicely.

At the end of the ride, and just as I've read in other forums, the bike shut down while down shifting from 3rd to 2nd gear, even when I was marching revs. This happened three times, after riding for about three hours (with two 10 minutes stops). Luckily it turned right up on all times. No idea of what is creating this issue. Anyone else have had this happened to them?

Check the kick stand switch. Maybe bypass it and see if that fixes it.
Love the turn signals!
Where is that wonderful waterfall and pool?! Can you swim in it?

Thanks! It's in Naguabo, Puerto Rico. You can swim in it, you can see someone swimming in the picture.

Appreciate the suggestion of the quickstand switch, will try that out and report back.

I did not top it, but yes I filled up that morning. Fuel gauge did not show it was full.

Well sounds not like the fuel if it's not over full.

Will try that next. Can the sensor be just disconnected / eliminated?

There is more than one way to eliminate it i think, all of which are unsafe for street use

I think the ecu looks for a signal which requires a dongle, or electrical skills to connect.
I've also heard of mechanically attaching the two pieces together.

Unsafer than having your bike turn off while down shifting before a turn?

Time for research, will post what I found.

Rear "rack" (instead of rear seat)

Leo Vince slip on muffler

I have to say, the new muffler is very nice, I love the sound!!! Even getting some of that nice exhaust gurgle / pops on deceleration. Pretty fun, now it sounds like a proper bike I haven't heard a 401 with an Akrapovic, but I can say that the stock muffler is just too quiet.

Updates!

While in a ride I lost a screw from my bar end mirrors. Could not find a replacement in time, so ordered these ones from Amazon.



They look awesome in the "down" position, but visibility is shit, so I rotated them to the "up" position.

Also installed axles and radiator protectors.

I have the same frame sliders and I really like them, they are very nicely built. Here you go:

The only downside is that for the rear axle sliders to work you have to remove the license plate holder. But I think this happens with all axle sliders for this bike anyway...

Thanks! According to the website, for the left side rear axle slider, a longer 70mm bolt allows it to work with the factory license plate holder.
