Magura clutch is just weird.

So, my little bike is 4 years old, and I had to replace the plunger in the master cylinder once already two years ago, because it got stuck. The lever wouldn't return decently (making the clutch slip under WFO). Last week I noticed it had problems returning again.

So Saturday opened it up again, just to clean it, and see "what's going on". Nothing to see see really, everything looked normal. Put it back together and bled it. Lubed the dry side of the plunger and cylinderwith dot fluid and put it back together. So Saturday evening it got even worse. Heavy operation, and won't return. Opened it again yesterday, thoroughly cleaned it again, bled it, and still not satisfied. Some ugly juice right under the bleed nipple on the perch. Meanwhile I ordered a new kit from Magura, just in case. Anyway, put it back together yesterday -still not happy-. sprayed down my bike with some water to make sure any DOT fluid I may have spilled is neutralized. Pulled the clutch and it totally feels normal suddenly. Went for a 1 hr ride, and never had a problem. Walking in the garage it still feels ok. Just weird.

Probably worth it to not just flush the fluid frequently, but really take it apart once a year to prevent this.

i use the rekluse in combination since i had it stuck short after i bought it...
really recommendable...but guess bleeding it once per year helps also to get the potential water out of the system..

My (Oberon) slave cylinder has been rock solid since I replaced it at 800 miles. It's the Magura master cylinder I had to refurbish for the second time now...

oh now i get it sry ,, yeah think vit and svart have different mangura sets installed or at least their dot container if sealing is shitty it takes water and you will get some delicate slurry ....
have this issue a bit with the handbrake container sealing..

I’ve been told to avoid Motorex brake fluids. According to the very experienced guy from the trade every other known brand is to prefer. Personally I only recognized that the Motorex DOT 5.1 turns brownish more quickly compared to others. Max I don’t know what fluid you use, but could be worth to try a different brand and keep fingers crossed that the MC will last much longer.

I never used Motorex brake fluid. I use either Johnson or Wilwood. But frankly, it’s a clutch. It shouldn’t matter.

As long as the MC bore is in perfect condition and you didn’t use the mineral oil type piston kit, there shouldn’t be a problem at all;)
