Hi Community,

I originally bought my 2022 Vitpilen 401 bike a year ago, it was bought second hand and I only got one key from the previous owner. Fast forward 2 months, I lose my key and can't find it anywhere.
So I call my dealership to get a replacement, they give me an ETA of 6 weeks, it's been more than 3 months now with no clear idea of when the key could arrive. I pester them constantly on updates, which you would assume a dealership would be on top of that since the key was fully paid for already.

I'm at a dead end with them now, I ask for an alternative, they want me to pay an additional $400, plus $200 in parts to replace my whole system. Compared to my $80 that I had paid initially for the key.

The way I see it, this has been a totally unprofessional interaction on the dealer's end.

Now I am asking the community to see if anyone has any idea on how to change the lock system, I'm considering paying the extra $ for the lock system and doing it myself. However, I purchased a copy of the service manual but there is no direction / steps on how to switch the 3 components without having the key.

Appreciate the help!

A new lockset might be easily found on eBay.
Look up the part numbers so you are sure you are getting the right thing that is compatible with your bike.

Be aware, that when asking questions like this on the internet... many are suspicious that the bike might be stolen.

Hi mate,

I have changed a complete lock set on a 2021 bike after someone stole our keys.

Its actually quite easy and should only take you a hour or two with basic tools.

You need the special bolts as well as the lock kit!

Any info you need just ping me :)

Really appreciate the messages, thanks guys!

I started chipping away at it, I'm stuck at the ignition bolts.
Any idea how to get those off?1000014102.jpg

Apparently, these are ignition switch shear bolts. Something like this:

After the bolt is screwed in, the hex part is snapped off.

There are various instructions online to try and remove these....

Hopefully these are not loctited in place.
I might suggest that if the directions linked don't easily work, you just drill the whole head off the bolt. After lifting the switch off you might then easily get vicegrips on the remaining threads.

Actually, before drilling the whole head off, Id drill it and use an appropriately sized easy-out screw extractor.
BUT WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT BREAK OFF A DRILL OR EXTRACTOR IN THE BOLT! Those are hardened steel and very hard to fix!

Want to say I really appreciate all the help and advise!!
I had both drill and its accs, and a Dremel, I was able to get it off with the dremel :P

Working great now!!
Thanks guys!

I recently purchased a 2022 Vitpilen. Original owner only had one key but did provide me with a brand new ignition and gas cap with corresponding keys. After seeing the difficulty you were going through I decided to purchase a blank key and had my local locksmith cut it. Worked perfectly and only paid $40 USD. Paid $12 for the blank key on eBay! Hope you get this sorted!
