Hey

I just picked up my bike a few weeks ago, I took it home, rode it around a bit and have been noticing a stall during downshifting to a stop

I've read about this on a few other posts in the forum, and saw the Coober ECU sort of fixes this, anyone have experience with this solution? Sent it to the dealer and they could not replicate the problem, everyone at the shop rode it, KTM tech actually was able to get it to stall once, but apparently that was cause he blipped the throttle

I really like this bike, would have ordered the fuel x lite, but they dont ship to a very special state in the west coast

Picking it up from the shop tomorrow morning, hoping I dont have any issues on the ride home

I just got my license and this is my first bike, i dont know if i ever want to sit in a car again

cheers

Cars can be a useful tool the same as anything else. See how u go after the dealer returns your bike and ask him what he did to possibly remedy the problem...if u can narrow things down that he did it might save u time/trouble.
What "very special state " do u live in as i would have expected Fuel X to go everywhere in the US.....even here in Oz we can get it countrywide and stock needs to come from the US ?
I don't know if Kev's O2 mod will fit a 401 but it might be worth email enquiring or if-not asking for further directions on how to proceed.

If it is anything like the pre-2024 models then no guarantee that a Fuel-x or Coober will fix the stalling issues. Some say it fixed it and others say it made no difference. Not sure I would spend that kind of money to find out unless the other benefits are something you are interested in.

I find it funny that a KTM rep says it stalled because he blipped the throttle. If anything that should help or make no difference.

You gotta' be talking about California. I'm in SoCal and successfully ordered a FuelX direct from FuelX in India, got here super fast.

I have a '22 Vit and do not have the stalling issue. I would think the FuelX would help the stalling issue because fueling is so much better below 6000 rpm.

I'm wondering if the stalling issue has something to do with the riders personal techniques. I use the brakes more than downshifting because brakes are easy to replace while downshifting puts more wear and tear on the drivetrain.

I had mine stall a couple times coming to a stop and a couple times at low speeds in first. The FuelX fixed it right up. I wish they made that unit for more bikes.
My CRF450L had similar issues, they are notorious for crap running down low. The AIM ECU was a lot more $$. Now they can re-flash the OEM ECU for half the cost.
My FTR suffers from EPA mandated tuning as well. Dj PV4 on the way as we speak.

It's just part of riding in today's world, though there are exceptions.

Its california ya

so ive had the bike back from the dealer for a few days, maybe it was just my riding style? ive started riding it more aggressively, and have had less issues with it, the first ride i had issues starting her up, even attempting to rev the bike as it was turning on, it would just shut off, but after that she has been going good

havent had any downshifting stalling issues since then

coober ecu lists it as working with the 2024 svart but i emailed them and they told me that info was wrong, the 2024 is still in the works, so i sent it back

as per Geokpran i ordered the fuel x lite from india, still would be nice to have

Have you read the manual?

1: You are supposed to let the electronics cycle for a few seconds before starting the bike? Are you doing that? I had issues when my 2023 401 wasn’t allowed to cycle.
2: Has the dealer checked the gear lever position? If the foot is stressing the gear lever, it will risk stalling when shifting. Also stated in the manual.
3: I don’t know what bikes you are used to, but when shifting down, make sure the revs are not too low.

I had a few stalls before I installed the FuelX, zero stalls after.

I didn't see it in the manual but I instinctively let it cycle before pushing the starter button.

i did see that in the manual, and havent been in a rush to start the bike, i let it do its thing...

im not sure about the gear lever position, i didnt think to ask them that, they said they had the ktm tech come to the shop for what its worth, but i can never assume

besides the bikes i used at the motorcycle safety course, this is my first bike, but there were never any issues with downshifting as long as the clutch is disengaged, whereas with this bike i have had it just cut off on me

going to take her out for a ride again, but feels like shes definitely warming up

I would check the lever position. It’s even stated in the service manual that they are to adjust the quick shifter sensor at 1000km. If your boot is touching the lever, and causing a stress, that could definitely cut the engine when you down shift, regardless of if you use the quick shift or not. And only use the quick shifter when the engine is warm, never before.

the lever adjustment is also stated in the manual.

Sidenote: If the service center is an officially certified service center, then they should have the appropriate training and shouldn’t have to call “KTM tech” to have a look.

I havent messed with the quickshifter much, i actually find it quite engaging to use the clutch

but my boot might definitely be putting some sort of pressure on the lever, im not a huge guy, but the bike is a bit small compared to me and i have noticed my toebox straddling the lever at times when my left foot is resting on the peg

I think I've developed the habit of preloading the shift lever on non-QS equipped bikes in the past and the Vit definitely does not like that.

I think it's possible that this is the source of the stalling issue, boot touching shifter.

It may be that for many this is their first bike or first bike with a quick shifter.

The Vit is not my first bike with a quick shifter so I know to keep my foot well away from the shifter.

Works for rear brake to....no footsies.
