Hot start rattle

Since new, my vitpilen would make a sound when starting hot like at a gas station like the cam chain was trying to rattle off.. it also made a slight rattle when idling along at a very slow speed. I tried the 10-60 oil and no fix. I did the valves this last weekend and took the tensioner out and exercised it, the first compression it was very hard then smoothed up. Now no hot start rattle.

I have heard that the hot start rattle is not a bug, rather a feature.

Gonna have to give that a try if I plan on doing hot starts.

It’s crazy that a sticking cam chain tensioner is considered “normal” by Ktm.. To the extent that people are installing a manual tensioner on an engine with so much thermal expansion trying to get rid of the rattle. Kind of like how a clutch slave cylinder blowing out is considered normal for a decade..

I dont think a rattle for 30 seconds will blow the thing, and too loose is probably way better than too taught... there's worse things.

Well, the aftermarket slaves is so much better its no point...
