Hi, the battery on my Vitpilen 701 recently died. I replaced it and when I connected the positive terminals, some fan turns on, but the bike does not. Do you know how I can go about diagnosing and fixing the issue?

No offense taken, I've never heard of a thermal switch before so I'm not sure what to look for. Just to confirm before I mess anything up, I pull back the rubber thing by the red tube and then use a wrench to remove the part?

No, you remove the rubber plug and disconnect the electrical connector that’s underneath to see if that stops the fan from running continuously.

I'll try that tomorrow. What do I do if that stops the fan? Do I need a new thermal switch? I assume that's part of the cooling system and I can't ride with it disconnected.

Hi Max, I unplugged the switch, but that didn't seem to be the issue. I incorrectly assumed the noise was from the radiator fans, but listening closer this time, it sounds like the noise is coming from inside/under the front of the gas tank. The noise sounds like an electrical motor spinning. Any ideas on what it might be?

Is the key in on position .then in could be fuel pump or tps servo like in this video. First noise is fuel pump prime. Continued noise is servo

That noise is normal. ( Though it doesn't sound like it). But only if the key is on. If not you have a short somewhere. You didn't accidentally hook the battery up in reverse polarity did you

What is your dash showing? Any error messages, or looks normal? Are you sure the new battery is fully charged?

Satur9, the noise doesn't sound like that. I've heard that noise before when I turn on the bike, but this sounds different. I'll get a video with audio of it after I charge up the battery and put it back in. I don't think the key was in the on position, but I'll double check. I'm sure I installed the battery in the correct direction.

DWB, I have a badwinners dash. It does not turn on. I just got a brand new battery (anti gravity lithium ion) that I put in. I'm putting it on the charger now just to top it off since I took it directly from the mail room and put it into my bike.

Thanks for the responses for far. I'll put the battery back in over thanksgiving and get a video and double check the points you've mentioned.

To be sure, you have a charger specially designed for that type of lithium battery, the battery is disconnected while charging, and the positive terminal (red) is connected first after charging.

Winter got in the way, but I just went to reinstall my battery to reproduce this issue to get more details, but now nothing turns on. Any tips on where to start to diagnose this or should I just give it to a dealership?

You can charge it with standard battery charger if you can make sure to limit the max voltage < 14,4 V.
I used the supply program (13,6V/10A) of my CTEK MXS 10 to support while flashing the ECU.

I think I have this exact same problem with my 2019 vitpilen 401. Bike was stored in my condo parking lot and did not ride over the past two winters. Bought a new battery from BS (BSLI-04/06). As soon as negative end touches the battery, I hear constant noise coming from behind the fan and below the tank. The dash won't turn on regardless of which key position I left it in.

Hmm, looks like my main fuse (30 A) is blown which would explain why nothing is getting power. Coupled with my earlier issue of something turning on when I attach the battery, it sounds like a short somewhere? Any ideas?

Exact same issue on a 2015 KTM RC 125. Replaced dead battery with a new AGM battery. Immediately after connecting negative, an electric motor (the cooler fan ig) near the cooler starts and dash wont turn on. Key position has no effect.

The only thing Ive done since the last ride was take apart the key lock assembly (idk what its called) since I had lost the keys, but that was pretty easy so its hard to believe Ive caused a short circuit during that
